I am considering ordering a 2006 so I can get the new 6 speed Allison what is the best guess on weather they will have any rebate on them when they first come out ? I hate to buy a 2005 when I can wait 2-3 months and get the 6 speed that I understand might improve my gas mileage 2-3 mpg ........of course if I miss out on a 3-4000 year end rebate would it be worth it ?

If you are going to be ordering it early, don't expect more than $1000., There is also talk about everyone getting the employee discount, so that may work into your favor. Welcome to the place!

Be sure to ask specifically for the 6 speed alli. I've been told that will be a 2006.5 model for the 6 speed. The early 2006s will still have the 5 speed.

Hi cpwebster,

Welcome to the diesel place. I'm also going to order a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD with the power package, probably in February or March of next year though. Please let me know how you make out at the dealer. My plans are to obtain a GMS number from a GM employee or go through Amway's Everyday Automotive Advantage program, whichever I save the most money from is what I will use.

Good luck.

I highly doubt that you are going to get 3-4 mpg better than the current 5 speed ! As far as being worth the wait and trying to get a good price. For one you will get the supplier price - the normal one that used to be on GMPOWER - not the employee price. Which on the truck I just got yesterday was another 2 thousand dollars difference. PLUS the 3,000 rebate they have on all the trucks including the Diesels. My truck almost stickered for 51,000 and I got it for 39,600. over 11,000 off msrp was way to good of a deal to pass up. But you can decide on the 2006 - I would imagine the best I would be able to get truck in a 2005 would be in the 44-45 range. I will take another 5 grnad or so in my pocket anyday for the SAME truck - 6 speed BIG DEAL. You will hardly see an increase - and when they print the mpg - remember that is under ideal situations the precise speed etc etc. Not worth it - buy now. Just my opinion - I could be wrong. Good luck though.

cpwebster, first things first! Welcome to our site & may you get all your questions answered quickly & correctly. As far as waiting for a 2006 just for the new trans. alone, I personally believe that a bad idea. The trucks won't be available tilll mid July at the earliest. I have never heard of G.M.S given by General Motors to anyone except employees & family. That is a GREAT DEAL ALONE!! The deal is only good till 7/5. That would leave you contacting me or Tim or one of the others to get a G.M.S.D.Pricing #. That will cost you $1,200-$1,500 by waiting & taking what you can get with the GMSDP. They expire in November right now. The rebates will not start for awhile as GM will want to see how the new trucks are selling before they start giving rebates out. They start production counts low for the first 2 weeks after the change-over, so that adds to the waiting period. That to me is alot of money to give up for the new trans. Just my $.02. Let me know if we can help in any way. Howard
