Need help. Need to replace a rear wheel stud on my 05 Chevy DMax. Not enough room to pop it out...parking brake shoes in the way; even if they were out I don't think there'd be enough room for the new one to go in. How do I get the hub off? Unbolt/remove axle, then what? Remove big nut in the middle? Torque values/things to beware of? Thanks. Al

Definitely get the tq numbers down before you start. Over or under-tightening can lead to disastrous results. Had a shop do one or ta'other on my rear axle. Bearings siezed.....Needless to say, they bought me a whole spankin' new axle. The old one was essentially scrap steel. Everything got so hot and scoured, stuff was welded and well beyond re-building. Really scared the mess out of me doing 70mph when she started crunchin' bearings and then siezed!!

I had to replace all the wheel studs on my drivers side rear side of my truck after I did something really stupid. Its not that bad, just take off wheel/tire, rotor & brake pad assembly, and YES you have to take apart the parking brake--that was the hardest part for me but just disconnect it and press out the bad wheel stud, press in new wheel stud and assembly is reverse of disassembly. Took me about 2 hours from start to finish, just be patient.
You do not have to unbolt the axle or anything dont touch that.
