Ok, I have this 1981 I was given last year with 32,000 origional miles from my father. I love this truck, I tow a 9,000lb fifth wheel with it currently. It has a 305 with a 410 rear and 350 lock up trans.

I beefed up the sus to one ton for the towing. I know its a light duty truck but this thing is clean as hell. Not even surface rust on the frame.

I want to go Duramax on this ole girl. I know absolutely nothing about Diesel p/u's. This is just for towing my fifthwheel camper but mostly used as my everyday vehicle so milage is my goal. (power when I need it though)

I also plan to put 8 bolt axels for heavier application as well as 4 wheel disc.

Kinda a tall order for a 1/2 ton. But with enough money, anything can be done. Why not go with a mechanical cummins? It would swap in relatively easy, and make decent power. It would also get you around 20 mpg too.

I don't mind the spending, simply need to know the right order and of what to do. Like I said, it was Dad's truck, I'm 43 so I will keep good care of it. Its important to me. I could simply buy a new truck (recent model diesel) but I thought it would sure be nice to see the duramax emblem on the side of this ole girl. lol Thanks for the reply.

If anyone knows of a shop that could do all the mods that would be helpful and as I said need the right blueprints (plans) for it.
