Started losing coolant with no explanation then today pulled up to a stop and SMOKE and lots of it came rolling out. Only does it at low rpm (idle). No water in oil or oil in water. HELP!!! Head gasket? Head? :help:

Is the smoke white? Do you have water vapor coming out the tailpipe? Is the coolant hose pressurized?

Yes to all.

I would think it's the headgasket. They're not hard to do. just get the gaskets and bolts ahead of time. I paid $23 for each side on the bolts and $16 a headgasket pair at www.rockauto.com (http://www.rockauto.com/)

Why do you need the bolts? Is there anyway to find out which side is blown?

Take the crossover off and see where the water is coming from but I'd do both sides. You have to have new bolts each time, they're TTY bolts.

Torque to yield. That means it streaches to keep the head clamped down and can't be restreached.

Was going to move it this morning and the thing locked up. Guess water is sitting in the cylinder.

Pull all of the glow plugs and crank it over, it will tell you which side is leaking and which hole, helps when you tear it down, you will know where to look. after blowing the coolant out of the cylinders, put the glow plugs back in and start it up and move it to where you need to work on it.:grd:
