I am considering purchasing a 2002 3500 with a duramax 6.6 from a landscaper and am wondering how common the injector problem is?

I would expect to have it done if its not already. Sad to say, but better to be truthful.

On that note, If the deal is right, I would not let that be a turn off.

Exactly if deal is good it be great. Just figure $2000 or less to do injectors yourself or probably $3000 for some garage to do the job but I be sure they know what they are doing. GM charges $5000 for an LB7 Injector job roughly. Seen a post to buy 8 injectors at $900. But average is around $2400 for them plus return lines. LB7 injectors and return lines are in the valve cover. This makes the job a little tougher and more costly because of this. LLY and up are external on the engine.

The injectors in my bone stock 2002 went 4 times before I traded her in with 150k- They were always done under warranty but it was a pita every time.

Has anyone done a correlation to engine-hours rather than miles? I've heard of replacement as low as 50k miles but it seems that most are above 100k miles.

If we use the average of 30 MPH (from the various engine-hour threads) it seems like they last only in the 3000-3500 hour range. That doesn't seem like very long to me but for my use if I replaced them once with high quality parts it would last me a decade.

Anyone considered this? Is this a good rough hour number?
