I am finally putting the brake controller on my '02. I have searched and nothing was mentioned or helped. I bouht this controller used.... no directions. wrote to tekonsha haven't heard back from them yet. on the controller there are 4 wires: red, black, white and lt blue. on the GM harness there are 5 wires: red, black, brown,lt blue and drk blue. I figure red to red, black to black, lt blue to lt blue. Correct so far ):h ??? which wire for the drk blue and brown from the factory harness ? both to the white controller wire ? Thanks in advance for your help, Billy

I have the instructions at home and will scan them and post for you. I believe for the earlier year trucks you pull one of the leads out of the plastic plug and put it in the other hole (only using four wires). Sorry I can't post it right this minute... I'm at work until 7am (EDT), then back in tomorrow night... If no one answers your question before then, you will have an answer tomorrow.

If this doesn't answer your question, I will still post the instructions I have.

Thaaaaaank you. I would have suely blown it. I wasnt completly sure the tekonsha site was good for that controller. I see now http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_19_1.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm79699US) that they are pretty much all wired the same. I have put snap plugs on the wires so I can r&r the controller to a prodigy in the future. Thanks again for your time, paitents and help.... OK, got the wires connectedand everything mounted. on the harness it says if you dont have the TP2 (dual batt) option you dont need to use the 40a fuse. in the elecrical center in the eng compt, I dont have any dummy plugs.... just the dummy looking for it. If Iunderstand this correct...... I dont need the 40a correct ??? have a safe memorial day and dont forget our brothers in arms... past and present.... SEMPER FI !!!!!!

You will need the 40 amp fuse if you want power to the trailer, thats what the 40 amp
fuse is for.

That note you read is for gassers.

You'll need to put the 40A fuse in the upper left spot of the under hood fuse panel. If you look under the sticker in the UHFP, you'll see a red plastic blank. Pull the blank out and put the fuse in. The fuse you are putting in will power the trailer charging curcuit. All other functions will work at the harness. This curcuit just supplies power to charge your trailer's battery.

When you're all done, there should be a 40A fuse installed in the upper left spot of the UHFP The fuse is not installed from the factory. It comes inside the trailer harness bundle that comes with trucks that have the trailering option.

If you don't have the fuse, it can be obtained from any NAPA store. It is a J-case 40A Fuse. It will cost about $5.00

This fuse is only needed if you want to have the truck charge the trailer's battery system.

You guys are awesome! I just went through this today! It took the stealership over 1/2 an hour to figure out what I needed and then they didn't have the fuse in stock! Got it at NAPA for $3.99.

By the way, I don't need to remove the fuse when I am not towing do I (stupid question)?

Thanks again!

Once the fuse is installed, leave it there.

When the trailer pigtail is hooked to the truck and you have appliances (lights, water pump, etc.) in the trailer ON, you will be drawing from the truck battries also, if the truck is not running.

When I am towing and stop for the evening, (rest area, truck stop, WalMart parking lot) I unplug the pigtail. Just remember to plug it backin in the morning.
