My stock exhaust on my 2001 8.1 just rotted out this week. I am looking for a system that is quiet, yet flows as good as the stock system. In looking at the aftermarket replacement exhaust from local parts stores such as Napa, there replacement parts are smaller than stock, have more restrictive bends, and will clearly cost me power and possibly mpg. I do not want a "performance tone" at all from this truck.I tow with it, plow, and leave my house at 5am and love how quiet the truck is now,as it doesnt wake my kids up when i leave,I have a Cummins too if i wanna wake the kids;).
I have put on many exhaust systems on previous trucks, and something that every aftermarket high flow system seems to have is a resonance in the cab.I will not have that at all either.I dont want an increase in flow if it will mean an increase in noise.I just want the noise and performance of a stock system.Does anyone know an aftermarket system that is very quiet and doesnt resonate?I was thinking a mandrel bent high flow system with a second muffler, but again Id rather not experiment and invest money into a system I will hate....thanks in advance.

Check on Corsa. Expense but hear they are nice on 8.1s.

Many folks have taken their stock systems off. It's a shame you can't contact someone locally with a takeoff, it would give you exactly what you have now and for lots less money than new.

When I bought my truck it had straight pipes on it (DON'T DO if you value your eardrums)...I replaced those with a Walker quiet-flow, it's pretty quiet but has a little rumble (which I like) around 1500-2000rpm...muffler and tailpipe were reasonably priced on amazon.com where I got them from

Any aftermarket muffler is mostly performance minded in nature which is going to be varying louder than stock. Your best bet is OEM if you want super quite. At least I havent look at that route so I wouldnt know. Also make sure whatever you buy IT IS STAINLESS STEEL. I live in salty area too and it sucks to pay for something and 2 years later have to do it again because it rusted out. I was told that stock was SS also but I havent checked.

I have both a corsa touring kit and a stock exhaust. The stocker is a little cut up but nothing you couldnt put back together. Both are for a 8.1L ECSB. Dont really want to ship it though....you would have to take a ride down from NYC.

Thanks for the offer,im 1 1/2 hrs north of NYC,not sure how far south you are.If you had a CCSB Id probably take the ride.Id have to add pipe somewhere. I wanted to just get a napa system, but they clearly do not flow nearly as good as stock,it looks like a 6.0 exhaust adapted to fit an 8.1.I didnt look at how bad everything else is,but the muffler is rotted and it sounds like garbage.I hate the cab drone, thats what im trying to avoid.

I was laying under the truck checking the exhaust, and it is stainless and not rotted at all...There is a stain on the muffler, when it got loud i thought it rotted thru there. It didnt, the front pipes are stainless, the cat back is stainless.Connecting them is 2 small pipes going over both the front pipes and cat back. There are 4 muffler clamps that are rusting out as well. That's where the leak is,clearly these connectors are not stainless.....so ill have to cut it apart and put new sleeves ,and i should be set.....I lost some torque with these leaks, you can feel it.I can't wait to get it fixed. The last thing i wanted was a performance or aftermarket exhaust.
