: 2 New LMM's What do I need to know?
TheChevyHDMan 10-22-2009, 11:54 PM Hey guys quietly lurking but I ordered 2 new LMM's and well they are on hand and being worked. Any advice or knowledge to share? Coming from my LB7 and knowing pretty much everything Im really lost on what to know with the new LMM's
Regen etc seems obvious, but what about common problems, SES lights, Just shed a little light on me and our new trucks.
Thanks Bill
Tanc Crusher 10-23-2009, 12:17 AM I say not much difference over the LB7. Still Injectors will fail at some point. wheel spindels can go bad anytime.

sticky_designs 10-23-2009, 12:18 AM Well gee's Bill I am sure others will have much to say but one thing I can say first is there really are not any common problems with these. Most I heard was a few others here having a rear end seal leaking on them. I never had any problems nice to get rid of the dpf if your not concerned about warranty. If you are concerned about your warranty don't take off the dpf and don't chip it. I am looking forward to my warranty ending so I can take my dpf off.
Bartman432 10-23-2009, 12:25 AM If you don't plan on modifying it, just keep it stock and enjoy it. Awesome trucks. I absolutely love mine. Best vehicle I ever had. I would hold onto that DPF, and all the other emissions stuff.
heymccall 10-23-2009, 12:29 AM If the doors squeak and creak, lube the door seals with silicon grease.
If the dash rattles, take off the knee brace and reattach the crash plate.
Check the rear Diff oil, as they still come in low.
Remove all the caliper slide bolts and apply synthetic grease, as the factory is really, really stingy.
Check the headlamp aim after 2mos or so in service as the rear springs really settle in.
If towing, the trailer charge wire isn't hooked up.
The receiver hitch is 2 1/2" and the factory provides the adapter.
Ensure that the AM/FM antenna is past hand tight.
Regular key copies will not start the truck, as there is an embedded chip in each key.
Pay close attention to return to 2WD after needing four wheel drive as the factory indicator is very tiny and unnoticeable, when equpped with the electronically controlled transfer case.
If they don't have DIC's, they can be added for $90 with the tools God gave you.
The OEM tire monitor pressure settiings are too high, requiring 65 front and 80 rear, resulting in poor tire wear patterns and jouncy handling.
I think that covers it.
Paul Clancy 10-23-2009, 02:45 AM My 09 had a leaking water pump- look for dried dex on the drivers side of skid plate, have heard others with this . Also had limp mode occur - was a throttle position cable pinch/wear through - dealer said tsb on that - quick fix. Other than that doing great.
DirtyDogOfTheDesert 10-23-2009, 06:16 AM If you get lots of snow where you are in the winter, be sure to use the winter front that came with the truck. They are prone to ingesting snow into the airbox without it when driving in severe winter snow storms.
grandpa67 10-23-2009, 11:11 AM Good info "heymcall", thanks. Didn't know about half the stuff you listed.
Love my truck. 15k plus and no problems yet and the thing tows like a mule.
diesail 10-23-2009, 12:00 PM If the doors squeak and creak, lube the door seals with silicon grease.
I have found that the squeaks mostly come from the outer seal along the top between the seal and the BODY not between the seal and the DOOR.
transferred 10-23-2009, 12:28 PM A couple of guys at work have LMM's---they love them and have had no issues apart from squeaky door seals which even the silicone can't fully fix. No biggy though. I've driven a friend's and it seems a great truck, great looking and plenty of power
diesail- not exactly sure where you mean but will pass the info along as that may be the fix. where exactly? thx

what do you mean here
JIMMMY 10-23-2009, 01:13 PM what do you mean here
The charging wire has to be hooked up under the hood.
Also the rear dif is supposed to be below the whole - read your manuals.
;)
motovet 10-23-2009, 01:45 PM In stock trim you may be a bit dissapointed in miliage. I was anyhow....

:) I had 2 keys made at Home Depot that worked just fine. $1.75 each. They got this thing they stick the key in and said it had no chip.:)

Have you actually started the truck with them (I don't mean turning the key on to listen to the radio)?
I can assure you that the '09 I just finished will not.
chrisk1500 10-23-2009, 11:59 PM heymccall - can you elaborate on the adapter for the hitch?
I bought my 07 used at a GM dealership and went out and bought a 2.5" receiver, but obviously there is a lot more stuff in the 2" variety out there.
Is it just a short piece of 2.5" tubing that is 1/4" thick?

Yes it is, with a corresponding 5/8" hole set to match the holes in the 2.5" hitch.

For the home garage amateurs like myself, is there a loose wire in place that needs to be hooked up to the fuse block, or what? Thanks in advance, Gerry.

:rolleyes:Yes they both started the engine and it is a 08
TheChevyHDMan 10-25-2009, 07:47 PM Nah Gerry Im pretty sure the wire he is talking about is the wire that powers the trailer brakes. Its coiled up between the underhood fuse box and the driverside fender. It needs to be bolted down to a power source in addition to wiring in an electric brake controller for trailer brakes to work. At least thats what I did with the 07.5 in my avatar. In my LTZ I ordered it with the integrated brake controller. Hook up trailer adjust gain and go. Thanks for all your advice
