The glow plug module may not be sensing it if they are not shorted fully or fully opened circuit.

Is your CEL on ? If so find out what code it is throwing. Mine did the same thing and they replaced the Glow Plug Control Module and a couple plugs if I remember right.

If there is not code get out a DMM and start checking resistance on GPs and the harness. I would wait for it to code assuming your still under the 100K in case its catastrophic.

Just had #3 gp done. Dealer told me the first thing GM wants is a snap shot to see if the truck has any mods. If it does they void your warranty. Not that that means much. I have yet to find a dealer that does the right thing. There is a post here that tells you what you need to know to test them. If you have 1 plug that test more than 1ohm. Change ALL of them!

I had an issue like this too. Mine threw a code for the 4th and 6th plugs. Basically what happened is the connectors on the back of the plugs on the drivers side were really corroded for some reason. I ended up having to change out all 4 on that side and the code went away. The plugs looked good, but the connections were really bad, I cleaned up the washer style connector from factory. That fixed the issue. They were also staying on until The engine turned over.

I think that is a typo in the manual it makes no sense.

could this turn out to be an expensive fix? seems like they should last more than 80k. truck goes in thursday to see what is wrong with them.

Mine was cheap as hell, I bought all 4 plugs from Napa. The dealer wanted to charge me extra because I have upgraded suspension. They didn't want to work on it. I have heard that it can be really bad though. If the tip falls off the plug and gets stuck in the cylinder, they will have to remove the head, to see how bad the damage is.
