Im in the process of getting a beefed up trans along with my lift and tires. My question is that while shopping around on the internet, I found a suncost Level V for $3,069 from T Byrne Motorsports
http://www.tbyrnemotorsports.com/81truckcatalog.html
Or a level IV which appears to be a Level V (complete trans)
for $4,750 from GM Diesel Tech
http://www.gmdieseltech.com/store2/cart.php? target=category&action=view&category_id=283

What am I missing b/c $1,700 difference can't be right?????

I would be willing to bet that the one from Tbyrne does not include the Pro Loc Triple Disc Converter or Mag Hytek Pan.

Suncoast Converters (http://www.suncoastconverters.com/)

I agree with gunbunny, Eric probably just mislabeled the stage five. If you add up the cost of the converter and the mag pan, the price is inline.

Plus one may include shipping and/or installation.

Eric's is a stage IV, he builds them so all u have to do is switch.
He also states on his site the shipping for both are included.
His has convertor and mag pan.

IIRC only SC builds the stage V, must be done in house, no kits.

I think the Stage IV is the kit form of the STAGE V.........

The SC-III in my truck is holding up just fine and mine was self installed.......

At the time I built mine last July I could not get anything more in a kit than what I have now. Looking at the specs on the Stage IV compared to the STAGE III there are quite a few differences, some machining internally and the additional line pressure.

For most here a SC-III should be more than enough........but it's always nice to have a little more than you need, remember you only want to do this once if possible...........;)

Good Luck on whatever you decide, both of the Vendors will take care of you.........

Tony-
So you think the stage III will be sufficent. Im always lookin to save a few extra bucks for peformance but at the same I want to know my trans will be there for me . Right now the plans are a Quad 215 stack (already have the Edge so it would be alot less than the TTS) and nitrous/pane.

In my experience, the SCIII isn't going to like nitrous + "Stoopid Tuning". I got shifting flares at 550rwhp. You'll be over 600hp and maybe over 700hp with your pane/nitrous/stoopid setup.

Well you have asked an important question.........in my opinion the SC-III should be fine for the stack.........NO DRUGS.........as McRAT said it will not like the NOS much.........I beleive that the Xtreme is pushing the limits of my SC-III at the track...........although it has performed flawlessly and has set not one code and has excellent manners I will be adding NOS and will have my doubts that it will hold together for very long with my driving habits and racing it every weekend.

I have decided after my trip to LA and riding in Trippins truck that my tranny will be pulled out sometime in July and it will have one year and 25K+++ miles on it at that time. Probably 19K-20K miles on the Xtreme and at least 60 or so 1/4 mile passes. I am going to do a full teardown, inspection and refresh if necessary as well as adding an ATS Co-Pilot and boosting the main line pressure and adding MIKE L's cooler. I am undecided on a Converter Change at this time as the SC-Triple is fine........I may ask Joe Webb to inspect and modify for more low end TQ.......not for free I am willing to pay freight and any costs for that service.

I suggest you decide what you are going to seriously do with it........if you are going to go racing I strongly suggest the CO-PILOT.

PM or call Mike L., he will let you know from a professional viewpoint if you have enough tranny or dmaxallitech will steer you right as well.......;)

Good Luck,

Thanks for the info. Now I just have to decide if its worth taking out another loan for a Level IV/co-pilot. Right now the Level III would work great, but the problem is that I will always want a little more.

"This quad stack is great".....two weeks later....."Im board, time for some nitrous"......"WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"......a little later......."so a little propane could give me even more power"..........."whats this I hear about a auora5000"......"injectors?"

You get the picture

Since your going with a Co-pilot the clear choice is Here (http://www.atsdiesel.com/ATSWebsite/ProductsGM/PGTranComp.asp).Plus the warranty is better.

Crunch the numbers .Take a stage V Suncoast add the triple converter , Co-pilot,which it shouldn't need, right?Although the members here are clicking off faster times with the same combo or program, that's why you and everyone else seems to want one. Your @ $5527,plus freight, install ,fluid ,gasket and core. Then take away any warranty as you opened the case and added something that wasn't designed to be there and you'll see what I mean, for $300 bucks you have the BEST and peace of mind. You'll have the tech support and wont own a mongrel

Make any sense?Did me :exactly:

Well I think that with that being said, and still not knowing which direction I am going to go, this will make it a little easier to decide once I pick up the phone on Tuesday and make a few calls. Wonder why if SC built the trans and installed the Co-Pilot they would void the warranty???
