Something dosen't seem adjusted right on my set-up. I bought the powershot 2000 new and was factory adjusted. I've run through 25 gals. of diesel and about 1 gal. of propane. Most of the mileage was 1/4 mile strip or rodding hard on the street. All the hoses are still hooked correctly. Seems to not have the same power as when first installed. Am I just used to it, or should I be using more propane?

Thanks,
Rob

keith or mary would have a better answer for you at powershot, but my guess would be that your start time is set to high, it does seam a little weird since you ordered a new system,(they usally set them correctly for your vehicle) you might have to screw out the large nut(lower), but just do it like a 1/16 of a turn at a time, it makes a large difference, this will start flowing lp at a lower boost pressure

second idea would be to check the fine adjustment(small flat screwdriver), mine is set at 4 turns from completly screwed in

last idea would be hoses set up wrong, or something plugging off the orfices off(teflon tape or ect.)

i was running threw about 10 gallons of lp to a tank of fuel, i now adj. it higher 1/8 of a turn on the start time and am back to about 7 gallons per tank, i see a great mileage increase while towing so far, and feel a nice torque rise, making about .4 quicker on the 1/4 mile

You should be using a little more propane than that. Everything Fred said is right on!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/exactly.gif But before you change any settings.........

What type of tank are you using?? Nine times out of ten, the tank is the culprit. If it is just a single 20 lb vertical tank for example, it won't flow very much and will actually stop flowing at say around 10-15psi due to a flow restrictor built into these grill style tanks.

With 20 lb tanks, you really need at least two teed together to run simultaneously to get enough flow volume. A single 30 lb vertical tank will work better as it is more of a dedictated RV tank, which will not have the flow/float restrictor and was meant to run continuously.

Your start time should be at 5psi for the best of what the system has to offer. You can try to increase the flow, which is the adjustment on the front of the unit, under where it says Powershot 2000, loosen the washer and turn it about 1/4 of a turn to the (+) and try it. I would look to see if you have everything on tight, hose clamped down, so not boost leaks or kinked lines.

Let me know if I can help

Mine uses 10 gal of lp for 10 gal of diesel, and that is with no racing, just interstate driving.

your saying your running a 50/50 split of diesel /lp, seams like a lot
my last tank of diesel went 475 miles at 74mph and used about 6 gallons of lp, will be doing the mileage thing again soon

My last tank of diesel went 950 miles at 70 mph.

anyone have pics of this propane set up, and more info on how it exactly works? thanx

wow that is double my 100 liter tank of diesel, so then your saying you went threw 120liters or 32 gallons of lp as well for 950 miles, not bad

I can't believe the variation in how much LP y'all are going through. I know I'll burn more when I'm rodding around or have the cruise set when driving through the mountains out west.

I've had my PS 2000 for 3 years now and I'm using about 1 gallon of LP for every 100 miles. I have a 25 gallon Manchester tank (23.8 gallons LP) and have fine tuned the flow rate a little....because I also run tunes. But it has always used about that amount of LP for a given distance.

Maybe some of the units need recalibrating.

The lp I am currently using was bought for $1.09/gal, so at the 50/50 rate of consumption it is saving me about 2¢/mile over running straight diesel. I have a ball valve on the hose between the regulator and the intake pipe that I can cut the consumption if I want. I can't run the valve wide open because the cruise control won't hold the speed steady, it hunts up and down slowly. (Cruise has too much gain since it is only controlling the diesel part of the fuel supply) (I'll try to find some pics and post them.

The inlet line is 3/4" hose. I drilled and tapped a 1/2" pipe thread into the plastic inlet pipe and screwed a nipple into it. The hose ID is the same as the pipe OD. This regulator opens at 1.5" of water column vacuum. The engine has to suck the fuel in, it doesn't go in on its own.

i once right after ps install was running lp at such a high flow rate that the truck would actually pop and fart on idle, and also had a bad surge on cruise

were i am now is i turned the start time up to where i have no surge in cruise(4-8lbs) at 70 mph giving me 850miles on a 8 gallon tank

I get about anywhere from 300 miles (at 100% setting) to 1200 miles (at 15% setting) all depending on how I drive, out of my 32 gal tank using the MSD DPI system.

I only get 3000 miles to a tank of lp! Course it only holds 100 gal.

Reading this thread makes me wonder where everybody's tanks are at? In particular I am looking for some shots of anyone who may have a tank along the frame rail in front of the fuel tank. Anyone got any pics to show me?
Thanks.

Haven't figured out how to put Dig. pictures in my messages yet....hope this works. Mine is exactly as "Hoots'" was in this picture....except I'm using steel diamond plate for my shelf instead of aluminum. I chose to put the tank in the bed for safety. I do take my truck off road when I go hunting. I didn't want any of the plumbing to get broken while out in the field.

Just my 1.5 cents worth.

I'm running two barbque tanks, but have room for another one if flow is the problem. The lines seem fine. I'll start playing with settings using small adjustments. Thanks for the info Fred.

Rob,

Do the tanks run at the same time??? They need to be tee'd together to run at the same time for best results.

My tanks are tee'd and are both on. I set the flow screw out 4 turns(was at 3.5) and opened boost screw a hair. The power and smoke are back:D I'll take some readings and measure useage.

Thanks everyone,
Rob
