Two weeks ago my truck started idling ruff like it was only running on half the cylinders. I shut it off started it back up and the problem was gone. I thought this might be the PMD so I got a couple of those used ones from ebay. The first one had a burned pin and idled ruff like my origional. The guy sent me out another one and the idle problem was gone instantly, but now my truck stalls intermittantly. It wasn't stalling with the bad idle PMD's. If I put the origional back on it goes back to ruff idle with no stalling. I have no codes and when the truck is running it runs strong. I think all the PMD's I have are bad but want to know if I'm over looking something. While my truck is running fuel comes out the drain so I think the lift pump is good/filters clean. I don't see how anything else can cause me one set of problems with one PMD and a different set of problems with another.

Try retorquing the nuts on the stalling fsd.

The is an ELECTRONIC componet, ELECTRONIC's work under the principal or PFM. That is Pure Flipping magic, :frankenst and when the magic goes bad any number of bad things can happen and don't try and use logic for it won't help. Thats my story and I'm sticking with it.

Just for argument sake, what PNs are each of the PMDs?
30214 - 1st gen, worthless
34264 - 2nd gen, very good from my experience
34583 - 3rd gen, early release of this PN have the PN written with a thick off white paint, these are for one older and less reliable than later version.
The newest version have the PN written in a very thin ink that pure white and smudges fairly easy.
All four are PN 34583 thin white paint. My original and 2 from the ebay guy run good for different lenght's of time then they start idleing ruff, if I shut the truck off for a few minutes and restart the idle is back to normal. The 3rd from the ebay guy has yet to miss a beat at idle and runs great right up to the point where it stalls, luckily 3 of 4 times it stalled I put it in neutral and it fired back up while I was still rolling.
Sidenote - the 2 from ebay that idle ruff like my original, I pulled the calibration resistor up and the plastic casing was burned around the base of the first pin (black going to solenoid). This condition was incomming.

Not all stalls are necessarily PMD's, or for that matter pumps. I thought I covered most bases after owning my truck since 98, but I continue to learn about grounds, and more electrical connections, ignition switches, and trailer wiring harnesses affecting things.
Don't be afraid to supplement the factory grounds to the passenger side intake grounding point where a braided strap connects to the frame. This one was a big one on my truck, even though I cleaned it before. Seems it needs checking from time to time. Just go over the truck from one end to the other and check every ground you have, add star washers, clean them, you'd be surprised how good they look but how bad they really are.
