I have been having intermittent problems with my instrument cluster for several months. I constantly get codes P0650 and P0381. My tach guage bounces around but the truck runs just fine and when I put the cruise control on the tach goes to zero. Also my turn signals go not work and some of the icons flicker. I checked all appropiate fuses and can not find any problems. I was told by a dealer that when you get these two codes it is an instrument cluster problem. Any suggestions.

Know that is a screwy issue. Have you pulled the cluster to verify connector pins fully inserted and plugged on securely? Is it not under warranty?

I have pulled the cluster several times and reconnected it making sure all the pins are good. The problem goes away for a little while then the symptoms come back. My truck has 50K plus miles and is out of warranty. I was wondering if it is the cluster or is it another issue.

this is going to sound dumb......... But when you have this problem go and give the big fuse block under the hood a good smack. And let me know if that makes it stop! I say that cause they had to put in a whole new block in my truck!!!! Cause of a problem like that.

I can agree on something like that. One thing these trucks hate and that a voltage issue with the modules throughout the truck. Not waking up or function correctly. If your on stock batteries it might be time to replace both of them. Seen quirky things with batteries and the cluster. Reason i say that is you say it is fine after a disconnect and reconnect. You could try this. Disconnect both batteries and then reconnect them see if that helps for a bit.

The cluster does not always correct itself after a disconnect and reconnect. It seems to correct itself randomly. There is no sure way to correct the problem. It was fine for most of a 200 mile trip and then the tach went crazy and I lost my turn signals. This morning I checked it by starting the truck and everything is working. I do have the check engine light on with the codes P0650 and P0381.
