Ok so i purchased some cabin air filters for my 2006 2500HD. i am reading that there were not any cabin filter after 2003 year. i also tried to complete this project of changing the filters today but could not figure out how to open the compartment the contains the filter. i was able to take out an electronic adapter fixture on bottom of filter box that looked like it had three different sized metal fins on the backside of it. after removing this piece i could see the filter elements inside through the hole but could not figure out how to access them, has anyone done this before or know how to open the compartment that house the cabin filter?

Like you said there isn't filter on the 04+ what you saw was the heater core. The BAC (member) sells a kit to install them on your truck you have to cut open the duct work.

No cabin filter after 2003 like you mentioned. When you get it open get a picture of whats there and post it. Interested in seeing the heater core.

If you search BACs old post about his kit there might be some pics of it. If I remeber I'll look, but its not easy to get a pic.

Heres a pic of what your HVAC probably looked like:

You may also have an HVAC that looks like this:

Those are the bosses left over when GM decided to eliminate the filters from the ducting. Your 06 wont have cabin filters unless you retrofit them yourself.
If you do retrofit the filters, it'll look something like this:

As a side note, mine looks like the 2nd picture, and believe it or not it is an 02 that was probably one of the last ones off of the assembly line in June of that year. I do not have a filter either.

well the first picture is exactly what it looks like. Unbelievable, so easy to make that a changeable piece from the start of the manuf process. Idiots. Ok so now ur just stuck with dirty filters for the life of your vehicle unless you do this home mod??? ok can you post a link for the how to? is this an easy Do it Yourself project.....?

There are no filters in there at all now- you have to get the conversion kit and make the access hole/door and buy filters to put in there.

what brand of filters work best ? i replaced mine with fram a month or so ago after doing "bac's" conversion years ago. the first set tore 7 bent upon installation. so i returned for another set. now im thinking these are damaged also since my cab is full of sand from a weekend at the dunes.
not very much impressed with fram's.

I went to Autozone and bought Bosch filters. Pretty cheap and there were plenty in stock. No problems since and they seem pretty well made.

I have a set of brand new A/C Delco cabin filters for a pre 2003 if anybody wants them. I bought them thinking I had to replace mine over a year ago and found that I don't have any.

I used Napa Gold (Wix) but if the Delco cabin filter is as good as the air filter then it would be the best. It sucks that GM did away with the cabin filter but big surprise, they have continued to cheapen these trucks up to nothing.
