I am looking to take my truck in to the shop, but the last time I went in I got no were. As soon as they saw my gauges they did nothing and just blamed my problems on a possible install of a chip devise. Since the things I need to have done are going to be related to the very things a mod would affect I would like some help from you guys. Where do you send your trucks for warranty repair? I know that there are a lot of others out hear in Colorado that have warranty work done on a altered truck. Please let me know where you go and trust. Any where in Colorado I will drive to. I just want a good job done with out the hassle of the fact my truck looks like it has been alerted. I have a 05 GMC

Thanks in advance for those whom are able to give me advise.

I have to leave my pillar mounted gauges and the exhaust on with the pyrometer. How hard is it to take off the pillar mounted gauges? Should i do that as well?

Suss Pontiac GMC has been great with me (also where I bought the truck). Gave me no problems having a pyro installed, or 4" exhaust when I took it in to have 2 injectors replaced a couple of months ago. I worked with Anthony who is the assitant Service Manger. He has a lot of great techs in his team...

I suggest that when you are planning power mods (excluding gauges, air intake, exhaust, traction bars . . . )that you design how you will attach things (solenoids, relays, bottles, switches . . . ) in a way that they can be removed easily and leave no holes or marks that would give a dealer a reason to think you have made some mods. Holes on the firewall, in-cab switches not attached to anything, fuse connections not hooked up to something, and so forth would give them cause to believe that you have removed something prior to bringing your truck in to them. Lift pumps, firewall holes and a plug in the bottom of the windshield washer tank have caused conserns from dealers, that I am aware of. If necessary, acquire some stock replacement parts to have on hand if necessary to make you truck look stock. If you have some mods that you can remove but cannot repair (firewall holes for solenoids) you need to develop an explaination that will have no warranty impact (in-cab Rancho shock controll or air horn, or winch) that was removed. If you are not the original owner you can rever some questions from a dealer to unknown causes from the previous owner. Any mods that have no impact on the remaining warranty parts do not need to be removed (shocks, aftermarket fuel tanks, winches, lights, bumpers, lift kits - dealer often install these on new trucks, gauges, horns, etc) will not give a dealer the ability to remove your warranty. Any problem you take into a dealer, they have to PROVE that a verifiable mod was the cause of the problem. If they refuse to warranty based on something (mod) that does not exist on your truck you just need to push back HARD on them and/or go to another dealer.

One other important thing I learned recently: do not post in your sig any mods that would invalidate a warranty. Even some posts that you make concerning your truck's performance can have an effect on warranty. Some dealers have received benefits from GM for identifying customers asking for warranty work resulting from power mods. As a result, they (dealers) are now doing searches on forums, including this one, to try to identify mods made by some customers. I know of one member who got burned by GM as a result of some of the items I listed, above. Be careful - and good luck.

Great summary Deadeye.
Try Weld County Garage/Truck City in Greeley, they have always done a great job with my truck and they have a very quick turnaround!

i will second the last paragraph, guys with mods done in sign. or sittting on a time bomb, very easy to do a username search and find all sorts of mods location and even events you were in to be used against you in warenty and court clams, trust me on that one, been there done it, will not do it again, better yet, wait for warrenty to run out before mods are done, or pay for work to be done, dealers and gm are in bed together, and will scratch oneinothers balls if nessicary:eek:

i have heard that champion in denver does not care if it has a chip or after market parts for service. you dont even have to remove them when taken in.

Another delaer is Transwest GMC up in Commerce City, I do not have any mods, but I have spoken to the service guys and they do not care about them. They even sell a lot of mods in their parts dept.
