: Predator won't spin the tires?

I have run my DMax with the Predator set at 40, 65 and 85, but it will not smoke (or even chirp) the tires. I read posts where others can get their tires to spin off the line, and then from 1-2 and 2-3.

I know how to powerbrake, but can't get this big guy to spin from the 1-2 shift or 2-3 shift. Am I getting that good of a grip/traction with my aftermarket tires???

On the 40 HP with my stock tires I could spin the tires as you described with a powerbrake. With my new tires it takes a whole lot of boost to get them to even spin.

I've never tried it on the lower tunes but the 100 tune I can chirp the tires 1-2 and 2-3 and I can also do it with the Juice on 5/5 and the pred on stock. One thing is the ally has to shift a little bit quick to get the tires to break lose between shifts which may not be good for your tranny if it's stock.

Mine will only chirp 1-2 3-4 4-5 shifts, can't smoke them unless i power brake, and if i power brake very little like 1100 it will spin them for about 60 - 75 feet but not smoke them. FOr some reason i cna chirp my 2-3 shift?

My 05 spins the tires and it is bone stock.

These trucks are very heavy, and they need the turbo to build boost before they have much power. Most addons below 120 hp will not allow you too spin the tires on pavement while starting out straight.

Tires, air pressure, type of pavement, temperatures, all have some to do with being able to spin.
On 0* pavement with tires aired up to max these trucks will spin very easy.

If you power brake these trucks with a 120 hp box, you can spin all 4 tires. You may be able to do this stock, but you will have to build boost too the max, and that ain't good on anything.

Normally with the Predator on 100, if I leave a stoplight and floor it (no powerbrake), it will roast the tires on the 1-2 shift.

Have you uncorked your exhaust yet? If not that may be the kicker, I noticed the turbo does spool up quicker with a free flowing exhaust, and once that boost is up there the 1-2 shift on 85 will squeek em every time I'm deep into the go pedal.

That is because the turbo has spooled up. If you notice it will spin much easier on a shift, then starting out. It is very hard to spin these trucks starting out by just mashing the go fast peddle. If you do not have the G80 limited slip, it will spin easier then with the limited slip.

Thanks for the replies.

As far as Enigma's question about uncorking the exhaust: No, I have not. It is stock. I do want to run a 4" exhaust, but am not "mechanic" enough to figure out how to handle the codes that I assume will be thrown when the cat disappears. My state does not have emission inspections so that's not holding me back, but I assume that a 4" straight pipe will throw codes and cause problems with the performance of the truck, correct?

I have read all about the EGR blocker plate and the Fingerstick, and don't have faith in my limited mechanical skills to do that without screwing something up. I can change oil, filters and gear lube, but that's about the extent of my diesel mechanic skills.

I tried stacking my edge 5/5 and the Pred on 65 last week for a little fun and the truck ran like crap. The truck didn't burst like mt LB7 did but at higher RPM's it started surging badly. It would pull strong until about 3rd gear 2500 RPM and then get stupid. Any ideas?? I ran the 40 hp a while ago and it did much better. Don't worry I can't spin all my rubber either.

If you leave the Cat on, you can run any exhaust you want without EGR worries. If you take the cat off, you must run a muffler (not all will stop codes) to stop codes. A straight pipe will code, as will some no-cat+aftermarket muffler. No-cat+stock muffler doesn't code.

Find someone in your area who has done the finger stick mod and buy them a 6-pack, then you won't worry about which muffler will work.

Replace the edge with the van akken.....then you will have something. Predator on 100 and VA on kill is a pretty good runnin pair.

I was planning on that when I got the truck, but a friend of mine had the Juice sitting around from his old truck. I really like the way the juice pulls and I like the fuel milege even better. I though about looking into a custom program from Pred. that may stack better. Maybe take some timing out and keep the fuel.

:ro)

It made 440rwhp on my truck and was very drivable.

Mine did the same after Eric installed my SCIII last week (first time I tried the Predator). I will try the 40 HP this week. No shortage of smoke in either case! Same issue with spinning tires although I chirp them good on 2 and 3 shifts.

Running a Predator on 65, did not notice if I was spinning the tires until I looked. Front tire, still look new, rear tires almost down to the wear bars. I'm a hot rodder and didn't even get to enjoy it. LOL

No kidding!! My rear tires were at about 50% after 8000 miles...

Gotta love that Predator though. ):h

I noticed that when I have my tires aired up for towing they won't chrip but when i drop them down to 55 psi they will.

Yesterday my Brother was with me, and at about 15 mph I stepped it down, and the truck went every which way but loose. I had to let up rather quickly after about 100 feet of two strong black marks from one side of the road to the other and back.

Mine spins the 285s easier than I wish they would sometimes.
