For the first time since summer 04 when I got it, I had a little water in the fuel. I am glad I put the Racor auxilliary filter on the truck. It caught the water at the back. It plugs into the "Water in Fuel" circuitry. They are super easy to drain water from the bottom.

The dealership that I got the truck from, does the servicing, installed the Racor with mama GM's permission and officially made it part of the truck is so impressed with what an auxiliary filter does, that they try to get other people to install them.

They also do work on other diesel type commercial trucks. The guy I deal with keeps a bottle of fuel that they took from another truck to show customers what cheap fuel with water and dirt in it looks like.

I have picked up dirty fuel before and between the 2 filters I can hear my injectors thanking me.

The people around here must be cheap. Not a one has opted to put a filter on their trucks.

As an aside, I think I read somewhere that Fords come stock with 2 filters. I could be wrong.

Obviously you like your Racor fuel filter.
Did you install a lift pump with your filter?
The CP3[injector pump] sucks fuel from the fuel tank, with 2 separate filters, the CP3 has to work harder to suck fuel.[ could cost more money down the road when the CP3 guits working].
Do you change both fuel filters at regular intervals.[costing more money].
If the dealer is recommending the Racor filter and GM says OK to install it , does that mean GM has finally realized it does not have a good fuel filtering system ?
Ford has 2 filters [Whoop De Do] just my thoughts again---Charlie

1. GM isn't going to admit to anything, you should know that
2. there are numerous posts on this website about people adding auxilliary fuel filters and other forums about GM diesels with no reports of blown fuel pumps
3. even if it did ruin a fuel pump, the cost of a fuel pump is less than the cost of 1 injector, I know, I checked prior to responding
4. if I choose to change filters more often that is my business. Ohio has less strict laws about diesel fuel quality and I intend to keep my truck a while.
5. I see you had new injectors installed, bad fuel ? that is what was causing a lot of the original pre-LLY injector problems, bad fuel, inadequate filtration
6. whoop de doo, Ford must have known something to put 2 filters on, but they do build crappy auto trans in their rangers. ask me about my experience with a Ford auto trans
7.GM screwed a lot of people with Duramax's. Luckily I have someone who has gone to bat for me
