Looking to do a budget build and wanted to know what I need to plan for.
What I know so far. LBZ rods,ARP Headstuds,ARP Mainstuds possibly and beyond that what do I need?? I assume head work, cut pistons, and possibly bearings?? I already have all the external stuff I think. Just trying to build one that will hold 625-675rwhp reliably without spending a ton of cash.

Thanks

i would scratch the main studs and put that money towards a set of rods

X2.
Also, key the cam, and the only thing I would touch on the heads is valve springs.

Just hard to wanna spend $2500 on rods when I can spend $300 on LBZ's . Oh well I guess,if no-one thinks LBZ's are worth it I'll keep hoping my motor holds together for a while.

I would also consider upgrading pushrods.

LBZ rods fail right around 600 - 650 HP for any length of time. Yes, you can make more a few times but if you keep the power up in that area the question is not if they will fail but when are they going to fail. Rods are just something not worth screwing with if you plan to make power and not want to go back in again later.

X2, you can get lucky for a while but I would never build one with stock rods, will cost you more in the long run.

I appreciate the input guys, looks like I'll hold off and do it right with some billet rods.

I'm the kind that pushes it hard all the time .
