Hi all, this is my first post.

I have a new to me gmc hd with the lb7, allison and the elec shift np (263?) t-case. I have a leak between the two halves. Is it possible to split the case while its still in the truck? I drained the fluid and a piece of the pump clip came out, so I know I need the pump rub kit, but can I put it in without taking the case down?

Nope, take the Xfer case out. You're only gonna make it damned hard to get to the snapring on the tailshaft, and good luck resealing the halves as it would leak more than you're leaking now.

http://www.merchant-automotive.com/tech/tcp.pdf Here are the directions so you can determine for yourself.

According to here http://www.merchant-automotive.com/transfercase.aspx , you have a 263XHD.

Oh, and I almost forgot,

Transfer case can be handle out by one person. Once drive shafts pulled and transfer unbolted then slides off. But since it be apart do the pump rub fix. Be worth it before it does happen. Get the Merchant kit and everything needed.

You can try to get it welded or JB weld the hole after good cleaning. Or new casing. And then still need to do pump rub fix.

If I'm not mistaken, it means "put the driveshaft in".

The tailshaft bushing and yoke are lubed by Xfer case oil, and the seal on the end keeps the oil from falling out, ONCE the driveshaft is installed.
