: Van Aaken E on a 6 speed......trouble?
mannytranny 05-26-2005, 10:20 AM Howdy
Im close to buying a VA-E 0-70-150 box for my truck.
Ive heard nothing but good things about these boxes, and Ive got a question. Will either the 70 hp tune, or the 150 hp tune slip the clutch? I plan to run on the 70.
This box is the one that changes timing, correct? Does it make the engine louder or rougher? Ive heard that it is also good for MPG improvements, no?
Any trouble with the timing change of the box, and biodiesel @ 50%?
Thanks!!!
MaxRock 05-26-2005, 11:00 AM manny, this is also the box that I am looking at...except I want the 0-70-110 version. I played around with a Quad and ran it on 70, 90 and 110 with no clutch slippage noted. I pulled my 33' 5er with the Quad on 90 and everything worked great.
Now my driving style isn't as aggressive as some here, so that may make a difference.
What I am interested in is the throttle reponse. The Quad made my throtlle real touchy...especially in the 1800-2000 RPM range. I am really interested in your opinion of the drivabliilty of the VA.

sledman 05-26-2005, 11:27 AM I switched from a Predator on my LLY to a Van Aaken for two reasons, the touchy throttle response and the high EGT's. I am happy with the change at this point. It drives like stock, as far as the responsiveness goes, however there is more power. The engine isn't any louder in either setting, and smoke is low, as are the EGT's. I realize there will be differences in how these work between LB7's and LLY's, but I hope this helps you guys. Good luck..
coalbucket1 05-26-2005, 11:51 AM Even with the higher hp smartbox e's throttle response is the same as stock. The VA is a very smooth performer.
Manny, I have even ran the current stack on over B30 with no problems. There is very little rattle with the VA.
Mark Craig 05-26-2005, 11:55 AM mannytanny & MaxRock,
You shouldn't have a problem even on the 110 settings if the clutch is in good servicable order. Remember too the clutch is also controlled by how much weight you tow too.
We have sold a lot of the van Aakens on LB7 's and LLY's with great results. The typical response is the power application is the smoothest available and the EGT's are usually lower too.
Give us a call if you have any questions etc.

Go to www.vanaaken.com (http://www.vanaaken.com) and they have curves there for all of the tunes except the 125 Hp one I believe.
