I have a friend looking at an 03 LB7, etx cab, 4x4, auto, it has 140k, stage 4 tranny upgrade, and a 'small chip' 4" exaust. Its never pulled more than 4k and never been raced. (according to the seller).

What do we need to look for? I did a search and didnt find any official list. We plan on taking it to a dealer to do a DTC and injector test, but hat beyond that we dont know, i am unfamiliar with DMax's. And whats a stage 4 tranny upgrade in general, towing? racing?

We plan on:
Injector test
DTC
Turbo fin and shaft

i'd ask him what "small chip" it is. look for possible ladder bar (traction bars) mounts to see if its been sled pulled. ask what brand the tranny upgrade is (ats, suncoast, bd). if its a tuner that the guy is running you can save some cash and just check the dtcs yourself and get on here and look up what they mean. get the vin and run it in the vin check request section.

i would definately want to know what kind of trans upgrades are in that thing and where it was installed. also, what tune he is running exactly. injectors etc. are a good idea like you listed. and 03 is an lb7 and they have tricky injectors so check the rates and see if they have been changed out last if at all. if they havent been changed at 140k it is probably due.

first daily driver with a tranny upgrade ive ever seen,for no reason is really really over kill and expensive for just a small "tuner" best look on down the road. imo

thanks for the replies. so in the LB7 are the injectors a maintenance item like the 6.5? every 100k or so? also curious, did the LLY have injector issues? or any other major issues?

no rhyme or reason why the LB7 injectors go. some guys get 150K+ out of a set, some guys get 20K. i got 98K out of mine before they died.

i think if you're willing to change them yourself, you can do it for around $1500, that's buying injectors from gmpartsdirect i believe too.

they changed the design on the LLY injectors, don't have near as many issues there.

I got 92k out of my first set, 18k out of my second set of injectors,it is hit and miss with them.

how does the intake come off to view the fins? what tools (if any) will i need?

If you need injectors get with Green Thunder on here. He has GM remans. I just got mine and they look brand new.
