Rear Axle Seals Bad, Rear U-joints bad, e-brake bad....all at only 82,000 miles. Is this typical wear and tear for these trucks? This equates to more than $1400 in parts.
Has anyone else out there had the same experience?

I have 72k on my truck. Replaced axle seals, haven't replaced the pads yet, but I need to. When the seal goes, it can destroy the pads. Even so, the seals are $20 ea, pads can't be that expensive. Neither can U joints. Its not possible that you need 1400 in parts. Even 1400 parts and labor seems high.

The $1400 includes all the parts for the E-brake, 3 u-joints, disc brake pads/parts, axle seals, differential gaskets, and rear end fluid. Labor not included.

You don't need to drain and refill the axle when you change out the axle shaft seals (I assume thats what you are referring to). And even if you just want to change the fluid, you don't need a new diff cover seal, the diff has a drain. I can't imagine the parts creeping up that high even with the rear diff stuff. I doubt you would spend over 300 dollars at a local parts store. I haven't done my rear brakes yet. I know the seal must come from GM. Disc pads can be had aftermarket, not sure about ebrake shoes.

The seals are $22 with tax and the e-brake pads are probably not wore out there just covered in oil. The gear oil comes right off with brake cleaner. GM rear pads are over $100 and the rear discs are about $250 each!

Just buy new pads and turn the rotors to there min thickness, then replace the axle seals and clean the e-brake pads with brake cleaner. It should be about $175 for pads and seals plus the three cans of cleaner, problem solved for another 40K miles!

My E-brake is original @ 446,000 just had to have it adjusted 2 weeks ago. Did they try the adjustment wheel first? Brakes are also original, with almost 50% of pad left. Did replace U-joints around 250,000, and 1 rear axle seal & bearing around the same. Do like I do, just don't stop !!!!!
