I done the swap to my dually last year about this time or sooner. I wish I had done it to the truck when I first started talking about it a few years ago. I think it really had helped this truck. On the highway you can really tell a good difference in the rpms of the engine.

Makes for a much quieter ride and expect 1 to 5 mpg's better depending on your right foot.:grd: As another option, consider the US Gear over drive. It installs between trans and transfercase (4x4 models) and allows you to split gears(great for towing) I have installed two of these and have been very happy with the results. The prices have gone up considerablely since the last one I did about 10 years ago and it does require lengthening the front and shortening the rear driveline about 11 inches. I will not give as good of a recommendation on the gear vendors overdrive.

D.C. exactly which overdrive is it that you installed?

I installed several US Gear overdrives. This unit was originally made by Doug Nash and then by Milemarker and then bought out by US Gear. Very strong unit, 20% overdrive, all mechanical except for the electric shift motor.;)

Expect improved highway mpg. NV4500 shifts a little nicer, but has essentially the same ratio steppings as the SM465 you have now.

Major caveat is your t-case won't bolt on. Would require adapters or a swap to an NP208 or NP241. It won't bolt to your existing bellhousing. Figure on changing your driveshaft lengths also.

The Ranger OD/UD box from Advance adapters is worth a look. Since it installs between the bellhousing and trans you can use it in 4wd.

IMO, your are getting great mpg with your existing combination. I get 11-12 city & 15 highway with mine... but I have a TH400 to thank for that

would look at advanced adapters website, may have adapters to mate tranny and transfercase. ranger requires 8-14 inches(don't remember) setback of transfercase(driveshaft mods also) or move engine forward. order catalog from them. they put lots of info and then have manuals for various setups. depending on $$ and work could piggyback ranger OD/UD boxes(it is only an 2 spd box-1:1 and OD or UD) look at floorpan also as access holes need to move.

He has an 85 guys.It should have a round pattern np205 that will bolt right up if it has the short input shaft. If it has the long one you will have to get a $90 spacer from AA.If by chance it is the old style np205 it will require a $600 adapther. You will also have to get a bellhousing with the nv4500. I've researched this a lot since I'm going to do a similar swap on my 67 k30 gasser.

Ditto,

85 K-30 should have round pattern 205, short 32 spline input and will bolt right up to a GM nvg 4500. Won't bolt up to a dodge version without changing mainshaft and tail housing. I had to look long and hard to come up with a round pattern case when I did my cummins conversion $$$$$$.:grd:

Uhhhh... no.

You're still going to have to hack a chunk out of the NV4500 for the shift rail, and make a bracket/boss to hold the 205 shifter.

Your transfer case seems to have the long input gear, wouldn't work with my nvg 4500, had to trade it for a short version. You could machine a spacer however, but weigh the cost difference, the input gear was only about 150.00:grd:

The spacer is only $90 at AA.I finally got one of these t-case's for my nv4500 conversion.I'll find out soon what it takes.
