: Batteries Finally going :/
02duramax02 05-26-2005, 03:17 AM Good ole junky -:tAC/Delco batteries taking a poop. Every 8 hours or so long crank times to get started low voltage or it has not enuff power to crank the engine fast enuff to start. Havent tested them yet and im @ 37k :(. Time for some red tops I guess. sucks $100 a pop.
supatrucka 05-26-2005, 08:07 AM 80k and still going. dave
SS396 05-26-2005, 10:20 AM My Delco's went at 25,000 miles. Red Tops are in it now.
MaxRock 05-26-2005, 11:14 AM I know that I'm pressing my luck, the truck is 3.5 years old, 119k miles and still running the factory batteries. I check them for leaks on a regular basis and knock on wood they are still going strong.
Of course now that I've bragged on them, when I leave work today my batteries will either be dead or puked -:tall over the engine bay.

Scotty Seelen 05-26-2005, 11:15 AM 2001 with 38K. Batteries still running strong.
BiteMe 05-26-2005, 02:36 PM I've got 103,000 on my originals.....
I know it's just a matter of time, but so far, so good!
Brad97 05-26-2005, 02:51 PM Mine went the first year. I had an air conditioner relay that stuck in the first three months that sucked the battries dry. 9 months later they wouldn't crank. The adjustment wasn't enough to have me put more junk put back in. I went to costco and bought two of theirs.

MaxRock 05-26-2005, 03:11 PM Don't get me wrong, when the Delco's turn loose, it's red tops all the way!!!

Crash 05-26-2005, 03:54 PM My first set went at about 30k. The second set is bulging and probably need to be replaced (65k). 100+ temps here in Phoenix kill batteries quicker than anything.
idahofox 05-26-2005, 04:40 PM I have the Yellow tops. With Glow Plugs and Intake Heater, I wanted more than just a Starting Battery.
IMHO.

BullydogPowered 05-26-2005, 04:42 PM GM batteries cant handle being discharged. with the stereo i had in my 95 with the diesel went through 2 sets in 3 months. as soon as mine go its probably going to be yellow tops.
dewhart 05-26-2005, 05:20 PM 92,000 miles on original Delcos, '02 D/A
TXWHTHD 05-27-2005, 09:36 PM 02' with 76k still crank'n w/Delco's,,,,time will tell..
dutch 05-29-2005, 01:46 AM I've got 91.000 on my 2002 DM now and I had to put 2 new ones on Thursday as the original AC Delco's were dead. Actually just one of them was bad but I' wasn't about to change just one battery.
Put Napa's in it, no Optima's to be found closeby around here.
Diesel_Day_Dreamin 05-29-2005, 02:05 AM Red tops, Yellow tops?? I can think of several brands... What Brands? Wee hours in the morning getting to me!
Maxter 05-29-2005, 09:56 AM I'm at 155,000km on the original batteries. I live in Québec wich has very cold winters. The beteries were completely discharged at least 3 times for various reasons. I "feel" they are about to go in the next year or so.
wickll 05-29-2005, 06:14 PM Just got new batteries in mine about a month ago. Had no problems with the originals (until then)and believe I got good service since my truck is an "01". To me,age seems more of a factor than miles. I have only 55,000 on my truck. I know a lot people here don't care much for Interstate's , but I have always had good luck with them. We'll see if they hold up since I have an electric winch now.
crusty 05-29-2005, 11:24 PM :) 2001 with 65,000 mile. The batteries are delco 4 years and 7 months old.I have used Delco or Interstate for years and had great service from them but think I will try the red tops next time. GaryT.
rolloffhill 05-29-2005, 11:39 PM Optima batteries they have red, yellow and blue tops.

rudy fontana 06-01-2005, 06:37 PM What about the blue tops. I know they cost more, but are they better than the blue or yellow?
vettelovralexand 06-01-2005, 07:38 PM My 2001 2500HD 8.1 went through 3 different batteries in 27000 miles. Nothing was ever diagnosed as wrong with the truck, they would just be dead in the morning when i went to start the truck. The dealer replaced them all for me and i never had any reason to complain other than having to jump my truck in my driveway a couple times.
idahofox 06-01-2005, 08:31 PM Both Blue Top's and Yellow Top's are Dual Purpose/Deep Cycle Batteries. Red Top's are not Deep Cycle just a Premium Starting Battery.
The Blue Top's applications are Marine and RV, their post types are limited to SAE and 5/16 stud.
Yellow Top's are Dual Purpose/Deep Cycle and are available with SAE and GM terminals.
I run: Color Model CCA CA Reserve
Chrysler: RedTop, 75/35, 720, 920, 90
DMax: YellowTop, D34/78, 750, 870, 120
5 er: BlueTop, D34M, 750, 870, 120

Brerrabbit 06-16-2005, 03:48 PM Keep an eye on the battery acid. The windshield washer reservoir is under one of the batteries and if the acid leaks it eats the res tank--from experience. To replace is a 2-3 hour job and not under any warranty. Design flaw...
2001 Chev Silverado, 2500 HD duramax/Allison, 4X4, brush guard with 15000lb Warn winch, Hypertech, 265 Michell MS, K&N system:grd:
Tel9000 06-16-2005, 09:43 PM I had the original Delco batteries at 140k miles. I put in a new stereo system with an amplifier and when I went to hook it up to the battery, I cranked on the terminal twice and the side of the battery came off!!! There was no way that I could get the battery pieces off of the cables. The other battery got me to town and they replaced the battery and the cables. The truck turns over three times faster now when starting. Apparently I have been running off the one battery for the last year and a half!!! Even through the winter! I love this truck.
TX-DMAX 06-20-2005, 07:40 PM 01 with 55,000 bought new in 02 and now the AC Delco on the passenger side is leaking acid from the positive post. Will install Red Tops this week.
dirty old man 06-21-2005, 12:26 PM Gonna take a lot of convincing to persuade me that Optima batteries are worth the extra bucks over a good, top of the line conventienal battery, especially since it is a difference in cost times 2 for our dual batteries.

Won't even try, Some like "Top Drawer", others don't care which drawer. To each their own.:D
