I've got an exhaust question here. Do they make long tube headers from our 6.2's? I have a M-1028 and wanna start throwing the mod's at it. I would like to put headers on it, but can't find anywhere that specifies diesel. Will any ordinary small block header work? Most of what i see say 265-400 ci. Is that gas only, or is our 279 included in that? are the exhaust ports different at all, or is it all basically the same style small block? I would take mine off to check but there is so much rust i would probably break something and not be able to put them back on. So I would rather ask around about it isntead of risk breaking something.

small block headers WILL NOT FIT! the 2 middle exhaust ports are side by side. the 6.2 head is more like a big block where all the ports are evenly spaced. but i dont think any gas job headers will fit. i know hummer headers will fit but they need some hammer work to fit. someone else will have to fill you in on these.

by hummer do you mean the civilian hummer headers or the military hmmwv exhaust manifolds?

You probably already have the military headers, which are way better than the civilian manifolds..........butttt........these (http://www.stans-headers.com/gm_headers.htm) are much better.
About mid-page #164 should be what you are looking for.
The link may get nuked, but if it does I will PM it to you...

I don't think there is really any advantage to them is there ?

less weight, better exhaust flow. its not like putting a chip in an 07 duramax, but it still frees up some horses and lots of torque, especially the long tube headers. plus you can get bigger collectors so you can run larger exhaust without a reducer (which isnt THAT big of a difference, but is still one). in a diesel yo uwont really see a change in performance with a larger exhaust (a small one only. i noticed more pick up when on the initial take off buy putting glass packs on) but when you put on a banks turbo (which i plan on doing) it REALLY helps out.

and thank you for the website mattthebrat. i had forget about that site. i found it when i was looking for headers for my k5 last year. thats probably what i will pick up down the road soon.

The only problem is that when you put a turbo on you will have one oddball header, and with a DS header that long, you will have to do some serious fab work for a crossover pipe.
