Hey Guys i am doing a project on Diesels i dont know much & i know that most of you guys do so was wondering if you could help me out? there are acouple questions:how does a glow plug circuit work & Explain how to test glow plugs, glow plug relay & controler.

the glowplug circut is fairly simple. power from the battery goes into one side of the relay. when the engine temerture is low enough for the engine not to start without preheat the relay is activated to send 12 volts to all 8 glowplugs. when the engine is hot the temperture switch tells the relay to stay off so the glows dont glow. to test the glows remove them and hook the - terminal of a battery charger to the glowplug threads and the + terminal to the blade. after 8 seconds of being on they should glow red.

i dont know of any ways to test them sorry. might wanna call a dealer or an old 6.2 mechanic on that one

Basic Electric knowledge and wiring diagram and meter, is all that's required. The Controller is one of those things that usually works or not.:D So when you turn the key (engine cold) you hear a click, the light in the dash turns on and power is on the feed to your Glow Plug. When it doesn't you need the first 3 items in this email.
