please dont move this mods. this is about duallys only.

im in the process of putting new rotors on my truck. i have it all apart. the new rotors are on the hubs with all the wheel studs back on. bearings are fine and so are the wheel seals. now the problem i am having is the dust cover on the axel when i go to slide it back on the axel housing. it gets pressed into the hub and then it has to get past this ring on the housing with a little rubber thing on it. do i put the dust cover thing on the hub and tighten the bolt on the axel housing to get it on? i this a pressed on thing?

any help please. need the truck on the road tomarrow for work.

If the ring you're talking 'bout is on the axle housing tube, it will need removed.

There is some mention of it here http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84927&highlight=rear+axle

He's got it, it's a piece of the two part axle seal. Be carefull not to nick the tube to bad. If you do file it down and use a bit of RTV on it when reinstalling. Also chances are you ruined the new axle seal.

For a little note. I just finished putting EBC rotors and pads on the rear. Great stopping, but I was wondering if any dually owners have had a problem with the pads fitting. The squealer is to far out so it doesn't fit the on the inboard side. Also with the shims the pads were too thick. Anyone have the same issues?

Outer pads have top and bottom squealers, and the inners have top only squealers. As for thickness, the piston seals have a "spring action" to them, and with new pads AND rotors, the available width is damned close, and the pistons must be FULLY bottomed and even then, it's close.

My factory ones had wear indicators on top and bottom, inner and outer. The EBC ones I received also had them top and bottom. The problem is both top and bottom indicators hit the caliper bracket. I was just trying to see if any other dually owners have had this problem with EBC. They stop great though.
