I intend to install bypass filtration of the oil on my 6.2L diesel engine, and would be interested to hear your ideas on how best to set it up. There's the half-assed way to do it, by for example punching a hole in the oil pan and take the oil from there, and then return it through the filler cap. A smarter way to hook it up might be by putting a T-connection where the oil pressure sender is screwed in and take the oil from there, and then put a return in the filler tube or similar. What other options do I have that might be worth looking into? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

the oil pan thing wouldnt work since theres no presure in the oil pan. i figure a good way to do it is hook the filter in series with the engine oil cooler lines.

wait that way would just be a secondarie filter. sorry i figure the other way to make a bypass filter is to take that 1/4" pipe plug out of the block above the oil cooler lines and hook that to the IN on the filter and the oilet can dump anywhere back into the engine.

I think your best bet would be to take the oil from t'ing the pressure sending unit and returning it anywhere you can. Amsoil outlines how you do that and returning the oil through a hole punched in the pan.

Mmmmm... Oil filter relocation kit - pipe to appropriate location, and return...

Short of that - I'd be tempted to T into the cooler lines up at the radiator, for supply and return...

the oil cooler lines into the rad are flared i think so itd be hard to do that.

Not really - you're into standard fittings up at the radiator; You can get a matching T for both sides, outlet I'd think you'd want a little smaller (#8?) to get some venturi effect so you're sure to be drawing fluid through the bypass...
