Are there any out there??

I have had the Predetor downloader on my Truck (05 LLY) for 3 or 4 weeks. Love the POWER and HATE the smoke.

Is there a Tuner, preferrably a downloader, that doesn't SMOKE???

They will all smoke (to a certain extent). Banks 6gun smokes until the turbo comes alive and after, hardly any smoke. The Predator is very smokey, but you gotta love the power!

My predator on 65 barely gave any smoke until I made my exhaust more free flowing. Now I get a bit more when I get on it hard, but still not that much. I have seen the hypertech not give off smoke even on the higher level, if you want to downgrade to it from the predator.

With a Tuner the engine gets more fuel. If there is enough air to burn the fuel and the air is going out fast enough all fuel should be burned as before and there should be no extra smoke - so far the theory. Probably the Tuners produce some extra rich mixture to compensate for turbo lag etc. - fuel which cannot be burned easily.

Black smoke is a sign of unburned fuel. Meaning, those tuners are producing high fuel mixtures like Mahalkita said above.

Ive heard that VA-E boxes are nil for smoke.........no?

Adding NOS might help?

The Edge doesnt blow much smoke when you set the Low adjustment to 1 or 2.

The VA Smartbox E has very little smoke, however it is a harness box, not a tuner. I switched from the Predator to the VA, and I am very happy.

Quadzilla Tuners don't smoke very bad at levels under 135hp. The ones I have seen anyways? If you live at altitude you will get more smoke.

Look at westers fredw has one and IIRC he said there was little to no smoke on his 200 hp ECM tune they have others too.

I have the VA box and the Predator and the VA smokes very little for the LLY on the first setiting

At idle, floor your stock truck and watch the mirror. Even a stock truck with a cat will smoke. At least my 7 day old truck does.

Even a gas truck will smoke a bit when you nail it from a stop, and run it up.

Now, which tunes are more EPA friendly?

VA is good, Edge EZ on 1 is good, TTS Tow is good.

And all of the "big" tunes are smokey that I've tested. Out of the big tunes, the winner is probably Banks. For a big tune, it's fairly friendly.

I'm kinda leaning towards the Quadzilla Tuner cuz it is a downloader with the DTS Tool.

By the way I did put my truck back to stock and it does smoke at WOT-- but not as much as the Predator

I'm also running the VA and find there is very little smoke but I haven't tried any others to compare.

Ah come on, just give the smoke a chance. Pretty soon it will get in your blood!

Seriously though, any tweaked diesel is going to blow some smoke because you are essentially just adding more fuel to the fire.

I say learn to love it!

I have the Quad and have run it in the 110hp mode for over 10,000 miles. I really like it but if anyone says it doesn't smoke then they are the ones blowing smoke. It doesn't show hardly any at light throttle, but 1/2 throttle up it does smoke and makes a healthy cloud at WOT.

Overall it is a good tuner, I am happy with it and would buy it again if I had it to do over, just wanted to let you know that it DOES make black smoke under power.
