ok i maight have a a dumb question , i havent ever really been in the cold with my diesel much but yesterday when i got off work it was 15 degrees out side i went to start my truck and when i started it (after letting the glow plugs warm up) it was smoking blue smoke and missing and surging it put out blue smoke for about 2 minutes then was good i let it warm up and drove it and it was fine. so, my question is do lb7s do that when its cold as crap and they arent plugged in ?

At 15 degrees it should start right up and have little or no smoke. You may have one or more glow plugs that aren't working.

how would a a bad glow plug make it smoke blue smoke for 2+ minutes?

Mine does the exact same thing as yours. Chugs and smokes like a BB Chevy with a huge cam and bad rings when I start it on a cold morning. After a minute or so, it smooths out and runs normally.

Could be we both have an injector or two that are overfueling slightly (wouldnt surprise me) or as Mert said, one or more GPs could be bad.

my truck does that too, surges and has a lopey idle for a few minutes but then goes away. but mine doesnt smoke until you get down to like -25C

Even my dads 01 does it and his probably has 60000km on the odo.
