Did my first tow today pulling 40 foot 5er. All when well but got concerned on the down hill side. When engine BRAKE came on RPM's went to 3500 every time I tapped the brake at 60 mph. Is this normal?

bpzlv, I only tow an 8000lb. t/t, and heading down a 5 or 6% grade in t/h mode, tapped on the brakes, and it downshifted. The RPM'S were not in the red, but my trailer is a lot lighter than yours. According to the allison tranny book, this is normal.
The "red-dashed zone" of the rpm is ok for a period of time. It is the "solid red zone" that you want to watch out for. Jerry.

perfectly normal using tow haul. Go through the owners manual section on tow haul it has a lengthy description of how it works and what is ok. It will put you in the dashed red quite often. 3500 isn't much at all, it will run it almost to the top of the tach if it needs too.
