im clueless as to what to do. i have a 97 k2500 with 144,000k on the engine. i bought it from a lady who had it serviced. she put 2600 into it. replacing the IP. injectors, glow plugs, relay, and flushing the coolant. the service was done at 107,000k and i bought it at 112,000k. great truck.

lately it wants to stall on me:mad:. at first it was random when i would start to accel. it would stumble and pick back up. problem went away. then two weeks later it did it again. same problem. stumbles and picks back up. now lately the problem seems to be getting worse. it happens more often and now it kills the engine. sometimes even starting it up cold. it will fire up and die. im having a hard time thinking its the IP considering its only about 40,000 miles old. the LP still chatters away.

im curious if it might be my oil pressure sensor? i read that it sends a signal to the LP when the engine is runing and cuts signal off if the oil pressure is less than 4psi. only reason i think it could be this is my oil tack dances all over from time to time. not sure if its a sign of a failing one or not. i've replaced the fuel filter and cleaned out what looked like rust in the bottom of the filter case. first time i've seen that in there. any suggestions? im at a loss. thanks for the help all.

If your truck is equipped with cruise control, does it still work?

Since it is a 1997, the lift pump should still operate properly while the engine is running.

yes my cruise works just fine. im also thinking it could be the pmd?

should the lift pump prime when the key is in the on position? before cranking

Yes, mine is a '96 and it primed before cranking.

Usually lift pumps failing don't cause the engine to die unless you open the Tee valve to drain the water with the engine running.

I am wondering if you have a bad fuel line somewhere and you are sucking in air now and then...

Usually the cruise control stops working when the PMD fails. It is late, I am probably missing something obvious here...

i have checked the fuel lines. just a once over. nothing eye catching. it did scare me when i changed the fuel filter and found debris in the bottom. looked like rust. another thing i have noticed is that the truck seems to run better from time to time. somtimes it wants to race and other times it seems you have to push it to get going. still kinda wondering if its the ops. from what i read its a $30-$40 dollar replacement. sounds like the next cheapest thing to do

just an update. she stalled on me again today. didn't want to start. it would rumble over for a couple seconds then die again. so i did what was advised on another post saying to water my IP. turns out it did the trick. fired right up and ran strong. so that being said. would that mean my pmd is failing? thanks again for all the help.

my truck is doing the samething and has stalled in the middle of the freeway today and I waited 3 or 4 mins and it fired up and ran for a block and stalled again. I saw another post about the same problem and will keep my eye on yours as well and let you know if I cure mine also.

SS force, the pouring the water on the injection pump trick is to find out if your injection pump is worn out. The water on the injection pump is if you have a no hot start condition.

so when the cruise dosnt work it could be the pmd that causes that because my cruise dosent work?
