: Can this be done??
RyanU 05-24-2005, 10:52 PM My buddy bought a truck with the LT package. How doesnt want the big center console. is there a way to remove it and maybe add the little flip up console/seat.
i was kinda thinking that id someone wanted that big center console that they could swap out for the flip up console/seat or something.
im just kinda brainstorming here. any help would be great
kartdude17 05-24-2005, 11:18 PM I did that conversion. I had the center console and bought a center flip up seat off of ebay. Then sold my center console. But the swap was pretty easy and the only thing you will need beside the seat and console is the little plastic piece that goes under the dash plug in's.
RyanU 05-24-2005, 11:47 PM wouldnt happen to have any pics of this would ya?
WanaDmxsub 05-24-2005, 11:48 PM kartdude17,
Do you have the Bose with the amp and sub?
kartdude17 05-25-2005, 12:34 AM No pictures, and WanaDmxsub i didnt have the Bose just the regular sound system. Not sure how you would do it with the amp and sub?
RyanU 05-25-2005, 01:18 AM he has the Bose in his, where is it that the sub and amp are located? is there a chance that maybe he doesnt have the sub? his truck is an 03
AkDually61 05-25-2005, 08:25 AM Kartdude17, you dont happen to have a P/N for that plastic piece under the dash plug in's ??? I have done this swap and have been running with the gaping wound in the dash. sure would like to cover it up. Thanks, Billy
Deadeye 05-25-2005, 06:26 PM I got a neutral flip up seat, cloth, I replaced with a Tuffy Security console that is lockable. works great. the removed uses the same bolts for the inside of the dirver and passenger side seats.
WanaDmxsub 05-26-2005, 12:27 AM kartdude17,
Thanks, had to ask.
RyanU,
Amp and Sub are under the center console. Pull out the cup holder and you'll see what the problem is.
AndrewFessler 05-26-2005, 12:54 AM Kartdude17,
The amps are mounted to the floor under the console, the sub is part of the console.

RyanU 05-26-2005, 01:02 AM so is it possible to get rid of the sub and hide the amp under the future seat/console?
7997redtail 07-29-2005, 03:34 PM I am about to do this conversion. I bought a flip down center for $40 cdn. I did read a posting a long time ago about doing this conversion. I think he mounted the amp on the firewall and just ignored replacing the bose box. He said it didn't make much difference.
I have two big concerns i would like to address before i start. Number 1 is the question about the hole in the dash board. I gather someone has ordered and filled that hole. Could you please post the part number and the cost? I could go to the dealer but i was hoping to find one at a wreckers.
The second is the bigger question of relocating the DVD rear seat entertainment center. Any knowledge, thoughts suggestions?
Thanks in advance guys.
7997redtail 08-03-2005, 04:18 PM I just stopped by the GM dealer. The center piece to fill in where the consul comes out was about $450 cdn. THis didn't include the ashtray insert or a small cup. THe plastic piece wrapps around the glove box. You may also have to replace the glove box itself if the shape is not the same. I didn't spend much time looking at his pictures after he gave me the price.
Someone mentioned an aftermarket cup holder. Anyone know of one?
Wayne Dohnal 08-03-2005, 09:59 PM I've made a few, more detailed posts about replacing the console with a center seat. You can probably find them with a search. What you have to do is:
1. Relocate the Bo$e amp. I put mine on the firewall above the go pedal. It's tight, but possible. It will not fit under the center seat.
2. Do something with the Bo$e subwoofer. I just eliminated it.
3. Either relocate the RSE panel, or eliminate it. If you eliminate it you have to jumper 4 connector pairs on the RSE connector to have the rear speakers work.
4. Cap off the air vent on the bottom of the heater box. There's an easy way, and a hard way that eliminates the 90 degree adapter at the bottom of the box to give a little more toe room. I did it the hard way.
5. Figure out what to do with the gobs of wiring harness that used to run through the console. To reduce the bulk a little I pulled the 4 Bo$e subwoofer wires out of it. They can always be put back in.
6. As far as the ugly hole goes, I wasn't willing to pay GM's outrageous price for the stock plastic piece, which I would have cut up anyway to install a few things. After mounting a rear-view monitor, satellite radio, boost gauge, and 3 power plugs in the hole, it's pretty much filled up anyway.
7997redtail 08-31-2005, 02:16 AM Great info Wayne. I just did this and was curiouse if you knew which wires to jumper?
Big Angry 09-01-2005, 07:55 PM RyanU, I have done exactly the opposite your friend wants to do, and I still have my original underdash piece that is one large piece and includes the entire glove box assembly and goes the whole way across the opening where his center console goes. Mine is "sandtone" colored, If he is interested, drop me a PM.
