MODERATOR... please move to "Ask the techs" forum please.

Guys I got this truck last month. Great truck so far. The 15 mpg kinda sucks but I hope to get a programmer to fix that soon.

To my question. After driving the truck and getting it up to operating temp, 200 or 190 I think, it runs fine but when I come to a stop and idle, white smoke comes out. Not alot but definately noticeable. Did I buy a peice of crap or is this a $500 fix ? The truck is a 2001 with 117k miles. It had the injectors replaced at 100k.

I noticed it yesterday sitting at a stop light. The smoke came up to my passenger window. So I went home and let it idle. I got out and looked but didnt see any smoke. So i figured it wasent me smoking. Then I thought... the smoke is the same color as my driveway cement. So I backed the truck into the green grass and you could see it. A constant stream of white smoke coming out. Not heavy but definately there.

Im not sure what to do. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions let me know.

Sounds like my truck awhile back. One injector bad & replaced. The 200k mile extended warranty applies to your '01, so it shouldn't cost you anything to get it fixed.

Sounds like your injectors are going out again. Mine is in the shop today getting them replaced after taking it in for exactly what you described, white smoke at idle and goes away while driving. Do a search for "smoke at idle" and this is usually a sign of injector failure.

I had the injectors replaced at 100k... how could they already be bad again ?

And the smoke is more of a grey color.

Are you loosing any radiator coolant? If so, possibly the injector sleeves.

Sounds Like The Injectors Are Bad. Were The Replacements New Or Remanufactured @ 100k?

I dont think im losing any coolant ? I got under the truck and looked at the coolant overflow tube that drops down onto the frame and it was a little wet on the frame.

I dont know about what injectors were used.

I had them check the injectors today, they said the balance rate was perfect.

What else do I need to get them to check?

I asked a similar question awhile back in the "Ask the Techs" section. GMCSID replied, "If there is visible smoke, then each injector can be cut out one at a time to determine which one is causing the smoke". (I hope he doesn't mind me quoting him.:))

Good luck.

Just happened to me. 2003 3500 . Sounds like you have an injector that is "leaking down". Back to the dealer you go.
