: CD player install (pics)
Wickedsprint 12-28-2003, 11:11 PM So I finally got fed up with the crappy am/fm only crappy radio that came in my truck, went to best buy and snagged the cheapest CD player they had at 70 bucks plus the install kit, harness and GM ant. adapter. Total cost, 124 bucks..neat. Install was a pain due to harness being about 2 feet long when complete, shortened it considerably. Chevy in thier infinite wisdom does not have a switched accessory in the harness for the radio, had to outsource that to the fuse box wire that is used for CB. The kit for 17 bucks is pretty slick, has a pocket underneath the radio since the GM one is wicked tall. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/radio_001.jpg

Wickedsprint 12-28-2003, 11:17 PM In case you're wondering, the top bracket next to hula gal is my GPS mount.
Max Power 12-28-2003, 11:43 PM did you notice no more key in ignition buzzer. Also no retained accessory power.
Max Power 12-28-2003, 11:48 PM also will affect your back-up chimes, memory seats, low fuel, door/hatch ajar and others.
Wickedsprint 12-28-2003, 11:50 PM I noticed my chimes were gone..I'm oh so happy for that :)
Wickedsprint 12-28-2003, 11:51 PM no memory seats here :)
NoWake200 12-29-2003, 07:07 PM Nice job with the install and pics!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif Now you are going to want to get a AMP and a nice 10" sub.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
I love my music and by the looks of it you like yours also.
AkDually61 01-21-2004, 02:49 PM is there a way to retain all the chimes and still replace the radio? I am looking to remove the console and replace radio set up with a sony/xm/disc player soon. Info is appreciated. AkDually61
_nar_ 01-21-2004, 10:46 PM I can understand it gets rid of all the chimes, which is great, but why would it affect the retained acc power? That should be something seperate from the radio since it keeps power for windows as well I would think. I am curious because on trucks 02-older you can replace the stock stereo no problem with RAP for the stereo or windows. 'Course on those older trucks you have to pull the box under the steering column and pry the dinger off the board. Worth it though.
sp33d 01-21-2004, 11:59 PM NoWake200,
I assume you have a sub in your truck.... Where did you put it? I have a crew cab and I simply can't find a place in the truck that is large enough to fit a sub...

_nar_ 01-22-2004, 12:21 AM Now that I think about it, my dad's base model had no RAP to begin with, so I wonder if new base trucks have it?
Akdually- I am sure on your 02 truck that you can replace the radio with no ill consequences. It has the same radio as mine had, which has nothing to do with the chimes. The dinger in yours is in the box under the column.
sp33d- I have seen cc trucks with the sub box behind the back seats, but it could only fit 10s... Wasn't deep enough for a 12. That is one problem I see if I buy a cc, my $200 12" sub box that fits perfect under my ext cab back seat won't fit under a cc back seat. Arg...
AkDually61 01-22-2004, 09:50 AM _nar_, Appreciate it. I saw so many differant post that I got confused. getting rid of the dr,seatbelt and other chimes might be a good idea. thank you again for your help, AkDually61
tysmith 01-22-2004, 03:35 PM sp33d-
Look up BlueOx03. He has two eights in his rig behind the rear seat. Anyone at the Michigan Dyno day can attest to the sound.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif He can give you some insight on what you can do...

I have personally seen his truck but didn't get a chance to eye up the sound.
BukWild 01-22-2004, 05:42 PM I had 2 Kicker Solobaric 10's in my '01 and they sounded great. Haven't had a chance to put them in the '03 yet. They are in a box that fits right under the rear seat in a crew cab, the only drawback to that is no more under seat storage and you have to move your jack.
BlueOx03 01-22-2004, 09:37 PM Hoot- You were probably too busy teaching Mac how to properly connect his propane system.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
BukWild- I'd bet that My 8s would be a good comparison to your KSB 10s and my box fits behind the 60% side of the rear seat with the amp.
I thought about duplicating my setup to sell, but at retail when all is said and done it would run 8-900 bucks. Not cheep, but worth it...

flhrciblueice 01-22-2004, 10:05 PM With the proper enclosure, high quality 8's are more than enough. It's all about the box/boxes you put them in.
firelt 01-22-2004, 10:18 PM I built a box for one sub and amp,one is all you need if you make the box the right size, check under my pic's ,mike Edited by: firelt
problemchild 01-24-2004, 01:18 AM I want one of those hula girls......
Where can I get one?
sp33d 01-25-2004, 11:50 AM Thanks everyone. I looked at firelt's pics and I've got an idea. Unfortunately, I have a nitrous bottle taking up the passenger side (50% of the behind seat space). I also liked BukWild's place as I don't use the under seat storage anyway.

Pendlum 01-26-2004, 12:37 PM The C2R-GM24 is definitely the way to go, if you don't have OnStar. If you do, check out the OS-2. It's sort of an all in one unit.

Walmart..ten bucks..take it apart and put it back together with super glue..be careful not to touch her hair. Her stock glue melts in the sun.
