Is it possible to remove the factory glow plug controller relay completely and replace it with a standard 100 amp automotive relay that will operate the plugs via a momentary switch mounted in the dash? I know how the relays works and how to wire one, but has anyone tried it? I have to replace my Glow plug controler and may attempt doing this instead so that I have full control over the plugs.I know you can buy kits that work with your controler but I do not want to buy the kit if I can make one that will work equally well for the cost of the relay, and I also would like the relay to replace the factory set up completely.

Thoughts?

There have been quite a few people that have manual glow plugs. Do some searching and you should find some discussions on it. Sorry, I don't have a link.

Yes many people have replaced theirs and manually operate from dash.
Just don't leave on too long or zip, all gone.

Are you going for expense, or just keeping control of your glows yourself? 100A relay may be as much as OEM GP relay itself. . . don't know 'xactly. I looked at starter silinoids when mine went, but just opted for the OEM style instead.
