There is always the option of straight water mist injection as I plan on doing. intercoolers are more space to fill up and it takes more time to build boost inside of them VS a pipe directly plumbed into the engine. Though it does make for a nice smoke show till the turbo catches up :D

Plus, IMHO, our trucks really don't run high enough boost to require an intercooler. I personally just don't see a use for them in our application. but hey, that was my opinion. Let the beatings begin

^^WMI injection is a good option if you got the $$ ($500), otherwise a cheap OEM intercooler is they way to go. I would imagine you would have less than $200 in a complete intercooler. not sure which (Chevy or Dodge) would fit best/easiest to install.

For most applications, an intercooler is not required on the 6.5. The IDI's 6.5s do require a certain amount of heat in the intake to have complete/effective combustion, so there is a point at which your IAT's could become too cold. Where that specific # lies??....I don't know.

If you are towing heavy loads and/or have a performance tune running more fuel, an intercooler is a great addition.

hey thanks green machine for the link. there is a guy that put a dmax ic into his truck with what looks like little mod. i would rather put it up in the grille. but if there is tons of mods that have to be done then i am just going to get one that can mount under the bumper.

Well seeing as your set on pulling off the intercooler setup I'd say you could probubly use either or. The DMAX has a good chance of working if you want to stack it infront of the radiator and the dodge intercooler is common on the cummins swaps so I could see either or working, though it would definatly take some modding.

From what I remember, the dodge IC is big enough to wrap around the rad without issue, where the dmax IC isn't as wide and presents an issue when going behind the grille.

Bottom line, these are not intercooled trucks.

If you wanna do it cost effectivly then be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get dirty, and ask yourself a few times "what have I gotten myself into?" as you cut, hack, try, curse, try again, cut some more, then resort to a "bigger" hammer as you try to shoehorn it in.

If you wanna go the lazy and easy way, be prepared to shell out big bucks for an overpriced package.

Or, you can open up a whole new can of worms, and go with a Water to Air IC.

yeah you are not kidding. there is going to be a lot of fab work to do it and i am not sure if its worth it now that i think about it. hey green machine. was it pretty easy to install yours. does it take much damage being mounted there?

Ihave had an under bumper i/c in my truck since sept of 06. I have 60k miles on it since with no maintenance or anything. Literally have not touched it in 3 years. I live on a gravel road, hunt & fish, drive offroad, tow a large boat, a bass boat & a 8.5 x 24 toy hauler. The whole setup cost about 250.00 bucks. I laid it back at the same angle as the original skid plate & left my front under bumper air dam on it. You cant even see the thing unless you get on your hands & knees. The highest iat i have seen was 167f towing in 90f heat. It has no turbo lag whatsoever, it seems like the boost guage is mechanically connected to the throttle pedal. This intercooler was the best bang for the buck on my truck. I have seen a lot of posts lately about wmi & you dont need an ata cooler. My experience has been contrary to some of the replies i have been reading.

I like how the IC is always there for you when you need it or not, no thinking needed, WMI you need to plan ahead and configure it to work on your application, along with filling up another tank.
