Can someone explain the slip reading please. My numbers "disturb" me a little bit. Just wondering what was normal, and what high numbers etc... mean?

Thanks

What's so disturbing about them?

The fact they are high -- I don't want high numbers associated with anything concerning slip. It just doesn't sound good.

Sorry for not being a mechanic.

Well, what are you seeing for numbers?

When I get on the peddle to get to speed I see I don't know above 45-50 sometimes. Cruising it's 0, but when I get on it -- it goes high.

Could you also just say what the reading means? Slip itself -- I have no idea. These may be normal -- I have no idea that's why I am asking what SLIP means.

When your torque converter is not locked up the attitude will show this as slip. This is completely normal.

Change one of the displays on your attitude to show converter lock up and you will see no slip when it is locked up it will show slip when it is not locked up.

There's an old thread somewhere that explains the slip numbers. It's some kind of ratio of two different parts speeds that comes up with that number.

Do a search & see what you come up with, I'll try looking too.

After reading like 10 old threads, it's nothing to be worried about.

Seth, when it's locked up, you should see only short "flickers" of 0.6-0.7%. This appears to be down in the noise level of the sensors (computer is comparing input & output speed sensors and calculating a value).

If you're locked and romp on it with your Edge, you'll probably be able to slip it in 5th gear. I can feel it slipping at the 1-2% level and if that keeps up for any length of time or goes higher than that, you'll "zing" the tranny and it'll go into freewheel....just bump the shifter into "N" and drop it back down and you're back in business.

I've never limped mine (gets stuck in 3rd gear) but that's after you really whoop on it.

Unlocked, you can see some ghastly numbers (80%!), but that's the TC doing its thing under light throttle.

Pulling my travel trailer, once in a while in 5th gear , it will jump to 1.1% slip while the TC is locked. I am not really worried about it. If it ever reaches above 2% like mensioned above, you should consider upgrading your Torque Converter. I have never seen above 1.1% even mashing it in 5/5, the very seldom I do that.
