: HT3B turbo
vsandmnv 10-04-2009, 01:00 PM This is what I bought on ebay, and I'm not sure on what I'm looking like on boost numbers.. My thought is to inter-cool, and free flow exhaust and hope that with a little waste gate ation I could keep the numbers or more the EGT's manageable.. Give me your thoughts guys (and Girls). I did have the banks kit on and some yahoo had put a turbo from a John Deere tractor on.. Little did I know till I had it in for rebuild.
So any how this is the turbo I bought. I'm just wondering if I'm going to grenade the motor sooner then later with what my ideas are. I'm thinking the inter-cooler should help tremendously with EGTs. I sure don't want to bump boost much past the 10psi mark.. I was also looking at what someone else had wrote about using the upper and lower intake from a 6.5. Anyone done this? and what am I looking at needing for that swap?
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Diaric 10-04-2009, 01:07 PM BIG turbo, will be real laggy . guys usually use it in twin setups on other engines
vsandmnv 10-04-2009, 01:16 PM So whats your thought? Try to resell? is there I way I could maybe loose the lag? or is it just to big?
Diaric 10-04-2009, 01:17 PM i googled it and from what i read, probably too big, but others may have thoughts
vsandmnv 10-04-2009, 01:26 PM I hope.... LOL.. THanks man!
RCpullerdude 10-04-2009, 01:30 PM I couldn't find a compressor map, but, as diaric said, they are often used as the big charger in twins. Thus, I'm going to guess it wouldn't be very efficient on a 6.2. IMHO, it's much too large, both compressor and turbine. The John Deere turbo was probably a better match.
vsandmnv 10-04-2009, 02:26 PM The John Deere turbo was a bit costly on the rubuild and the housing had been all welded on.. So they wanted 1200 to fix her! I was like um no I'll find another turbo.. Why is it you can't find any of those mitsubishi industrial turbos? Guess I'm up for suggestions at this point. I need to get her running again.. I want a turbo back on her.. I'm willing to inter cool one so as to even run a little more boost outta a turbo.. As in if its a turbo that produces to much boost, I'll go with a nice free flow exhaust and inter cooler.. Don't get me wrong I know better then to think yeah I can run 20lbs. I know better.
4320Diesel 10-04-2009, 03:37 PM what was the model and number of the jd turbo
vsandmnv 10-04-2009, 08:29 PM I don't know now. Its been a couple months and I took it in and the guy told me what it was.. I told him to keep it I had no use for it.. I'm sorry..
4320Diesel 10-04-2009, 09:26 PM darn im wondering if it was a T-O4 aireasearch since those were used on ALOT of deeres through out the years. from what ive heard a T-O4B is a fairly good match for the job
vsandmnv 10-05-2009, 12:13 PM Now see they told me that it wasn't spooling fast enough for my application. I'll tell ya what on the express way it would flat come loose.. But around town she was just a smokey old girl.. Now she would whistle but no real torque.
vsandmnv 10-05-2009, 12:34 PM Ok another possibility what about the HX35? Would that be a better fit?
rpratt 10-05-2009, 05:27 PM As long as you have the T3 style turbo flange, I think the HX35 would be a good fit. The 6.2 has more compression than the Cummins so I expect it to spool even though the 6.2 is turning less RPM and doesn't flow as well as the cummins. We use the HX turbo on 2.3 Ford gas engines and they perform very well.
I think this would be a good fit.
23250r 10-05-2009, 05:44 PM Ht3b will be way too big, more than likely it has a 1.32 exhaust housing and would take forever and a day to light it. The Hx should work well...

the 6.2 turns 3500...the cummins turns 2800-3000....how is that less on the 6.2 end?
vsandmnv 10-10-2009, 02:06 PM Hey guys I picked up a HX35. I need the actuator for the wastgate. But my issue now is it doesn't seem like it wants to hook up to the exhaust side.. It seems whoever had the truck prior to me has a huge mounting block on it for the prior turbo.. How would I go about getting one that is smaller? I can't see paying to have one machined.. That would cost a crap load.. Any ideas guys? Also will the oil lines hook the same? As in does anyone know offhand if they are screw ons? I haven't played with them yet..
Diaric 10-10-2009, 02:18 PM post a pic so we can see
vsandmnv 10-10-2009, 04:10 PM So I think I may have found someone to make a transition from what I got to what I need. We are going to even lengthen it a bit to pull the turbo up some. Now I sent pics. I was wondering along with this what we would look at for a wastegate? I don't know if I should go with the stock Dodge unit? How much boost are we looking at that's the real question. 4320Diesel 10-10-2009, 04:33 PM top boost for a 6.2 is around 8-9 psi. top boost for a 6.5 is anywhere from 9psi to around 20. someone correct me if im wrong here
Diaric 10-10-2009, 05:39 PM 6.2 banks was 10. the 6.5's are in the 12ish range. gm turbo's are ineffiecant after 15 and pretty much need an intercooler for higher.
the hx35 should put out 20's, could hit as high as 30. so you will need a wastegate that operates properly
from your pics.. turbo is t3 flange (standard dodge)and the manifold looks like t4, there are flange adapters available
acesneights1 10-10-2009, 07:58 PM Yeah but from where ? I have seen them but can't find them. I would like to find a t3 to t4. Anybody know who sells them ? I was trongly considering the Dodge turbo as well. Usually can find them as Dodge guys put aftermarket ones on.
acesneights1 10-10-2009, 07:59 PM That also had me curiuos about using a GM turbo on a Banks Manifold. I gues the banks is t3 and GM T4 ?????

Diaric 10-10-2009, 11:10 PM i googled it and came up with a few ebay stuff. i know i ran across some recently when i was looking for some dodge stuff
vsandmnv 10-12-2009, 01:50 PM Guys I got a guy fabing one up. We're even going to add a couple inches at a 22 degree angle. Guy said he would make it out of aluminum so... We'll see what happenes... I'll keep posting. I'm trying to figure out the wastgate idea.. Talking to another member who's done this swap. Really nice guy! So I hope this goes well.. He's talking aftermarket wastegate. Or that's whats on his.. Said a lot of guys have fabbed up a way to use the old ones.. I'm trying to figure something out.. He says his 6.5 screams with it. I think I would like to swap out the BAnks intake for the 6.5 but that may have to come later.
randomid25 10-12-2009, 02:18 PM Just so i understand, this guy is making a turbo pedestal out of aluminum? OMFG
vsandmnv 10-12-2009, 02:23 PM Just so i understand, this guy is making a turbo pedestal out of aluminum? OMFG
I was trying to get steel.. I was wondering if Aluminum would warp? Tell me guys this is a first for me...
vsandmnv 10-12-2009, 06:47 PM So I'm hoping to have it changed.. I think the guy is trying to do me a "Favor" with aluminum... I told him steel would be preferred
Diaric 10-12-2009, 06:51 PM its exhaust, steel would be prefered. and aluminum against steel, you'll get disimilar metal reaction.
vsandmnv 10-12-2009, 10:46 PM I'm trying, I need to get it changed. Even if the guy fabs it up I'll take it to a machine shop to copy no biggie.. Guys doing it for free.. I just feel bad cause I think he's trying to do me a favor or something making it out of Aluminum. I'm worried about it warping.
