I have read the tire post on here but cant find anyone specify if I will need spacers if I go from a 225/75R17 to the BFG 235/80R17. Im needing to get the tires very soon and I absolutely do not like the generals and it seems everyone I have talked to likes the BFG's. Any help apreciated as I need to get these in the next day or 2 before a long trip. Also will the larger tire fit in the factory space for the spare?

Yes the factory general tires are junk mine had a vibration from day one that they could not get out finaly i got fed up and went and put a new set of michelins on .My tire shop is pretty good about working with you we spent about 4 hours one day trying out different tires trying to find the biggest i could go with without rubbing and on a 09 it is 245-75-17 and you should have about an inch between the back tires

OK this is getting stupid....I had originaly talked to the stealer about getting some new tires as they sell several different brands...I talked to them about going 1 size taller and they said they couldnt do it because "it would tear the truck up". OK well I go to a tire shop today to buy the BFG tires and they refused to sell them to me because they are not the same size as the stock tires. They told me "it would mess the truck up". OK what gives...I know the speedometer will be off, it will show less mileage etc but they are incuating that it will mess the computer up and be expensive to repair. Also this is only applicable to diesel trucks. So all you gurus out there....Can I put the BFG 235/80R17 tire on my truck without actually tearing it up? I have a buddy that has the program deal that he said he could recalibrate the speedo for the taller tires so that end of it doesnt even seem to be an issue, I just want to make sure Im not actually doing any harm to other areas of the truck. I feel like an idiot for even asking because I never thought it was a big deal to step up 1 tire size but after having so many people at the local shops tellin me dont do it im starting to wonder

Go to a different tire shop.
You should be fine without spacers but you need to check for a gap between the tires when you are loaded.
I run 285-75-16 on my 06 and I needed 1 1/2" spacers.

Is your truck 4x4? If so you need to run the same size front tires as rear or it will ruin either your differential or your transfer case.

Was the tire shop discount tire? I won't go in another one. Although now I have a buddy on the inside.....Anyway, No it will not tear up your vehicle.
Go to a different shop!
