I want to keep a 285/75 16" spare. I already have yokohama geolanders. QUestion is can I buy the cheapest 285 75 spare and put it on the stock rim,and have a working spare?

Why not? Just make sure it's E-rated, too.

It doesn't have to be E rated, a D will be fine.
Alot of guys are running D's with E's hard to find in large sizes.
E's are for carrying heavy loads or trailers.

Oh, ok...be picky......

how about this:

Just match the load rating of the spare to the tires you're running.

I would hate to be pulling my 5er @ 22,000# and blow an "E" tire with a "D" as my spare.

Dumb. :badidea:

If that's what you do, carry an E tire. He has 285's, just about all 285's are D rated.

just my opinion, but, unless you are going to incorporate the spare into a rotation cycle, i would just keep the spare you have, and unless you are going to match up the spare rim, same issue. I don't think it would hurt to ride around for a short time on the spart that isnt the same size as the rest of the truck, its not like you would be off roading with it and plus your axles are not locked together...

If you were to run a smaller spare, it would have to go to the front. With it on the rear there's a very good chance of breaking something in the rear end.
