Ok I took a trip up to Maryland last week and on the way back sunday I was experiencing some strange things. I had cruise control set on about 65 unloaded and all the sudden it kicked it off and the service engine soon light came on and it wouldn't let me reset the cruise control. After a while the light went off and it let me set the cruise on again. It did this several times for about an hour of driving with no change in the truck other than the cruise issue! It is a 94 truck with the NV4500. Other details are in my sig! The cruise doesn't have to be on for the light to come on. Out of the blue the light will just come on for a little bit then cut off. It did it for an hour or so and has yet to do it again. What do yall think it is?

READ THE CODES BEFORE IT GETS ERASED.....You will probably need the data in the future..

Will there still be a code even if the light isn't on?

PMD can cause cruise control problems.

I replaced it with a Heath one less than a year ago!

Did you jump the ALDL and read it yet?

I've seen DTC 36 do this.

Probably got a code 78 and the ecm kicked it out.

Kinda doubt the PMD in this case (not to rule it out), SES light will cancel cruise. PMD's will cause cruise issues, but when a DTC is triggered, bye bye cruise.

Look for turbo/IP codes.

Ok all this abbriviation garbage is killing me! lol I have not run the codes yet, I will try and do it this afternoon. What is a DTC? And if that is it what can I do to fix this. It only seems to happen on long trips going down a highway!

DTC=Diagnostic Trouble code
PMD=Pump Mounted Driver (until you remote it, then it's just a FSD
FSD=Fuel Silinoid Driver (see above)
IP=Injection Pump
APIAPT=A Partridge in a Pear Tree.
etc. etc. etc.

It's worse than the military/government isn't it. Speak in whole sentences without words.
