And the real difference, IMHO, is sales volume of the AAM is much higher, hence the lower price.
And these are both Torsen style units, not clutch-type Posi units, meaning they require at least some resistance on the spinning wheel, which makes them a poor choice for off-roading, but AWESOME for the street. Even my little Hyundai can show off the torque transfer afforded by the Torsen-style LSD.

After asking around and several phone call I did find that there is difference between the Detriot and the AAM. Was told that the real difference is the "bias" ratio for the worm gears. The detroit has a 3 to 1 while the AAM has a 2 to 1. I believe this has an effect on how and when the unit applies power to both wheels. The Detroit is suppose to apply power to both wheels on unsimilar surfaces better.
We'll see, have the Detroit coming in a few days.
