Installed the cat back system this weekend. Took a little figuring out which hanger went were but nice system other then that.
Diffently notice less tubro lag from a take off (this is from driving the truck Friday doing the install Saturday and driving it again on Monday, Drove my 03 Z06 Vette Saturday and Sunday). This has to be the first time I have installed a more free flowing exhaust and it is quieter then the stock system:eek:.

am.mscl,

I hear this sometimes and can't quite understand it. Same system on basically the same truck and you get two different impressions of the volume of the system. Now in this case were talking duals vs singles, but I see it single to single or dual to dual too! I know some turcks have more insulation based on the trim level of the truck but it still makes me wonder whay one person gets one impression that is completely different than the others.

My comparison was being done while driving with all 4 windows down and the back window open. Sitting idling is quieter also. I have the stereo on an the same levels and actually hear more turbo wine know then before. Purhaps it has to do with the angle of position the tail pipe is pointed. I was wanting to make sure that if the truck ever does put out black smoke it would be pointed toward the ground a little more then the stock one. The stock exit point hung about 1-2 inches from the body work, when I put the MBRP in I pointed it to the ground more so it hangs 3 inches from the body work. The hanger holder is not in any bind of any type and everything is holding together fine.

I think it has everything to do with the vibration modes of the tubing, which is a function of exactly how it's mounted / turned / hung / muffler internal volume (cubic inches, not spl).

If you hold a bell or organ chime with your fingers, you can completely change the sound from a ring to a damped ring to a thud, just by changing where you hold it and how tightly you do so. A chime is essentially meant to vibrate in one direction only (the lengthwise mode), but take that chime and bend it all up, now it can vibrate all kinds of ways with some funky harmonics too.

Plus, the cabs can sympathetically vibrate with a particular mode of the exhaust tubing. "Drone" is where you have a natural mode of the cab and a natural mode of the tubing at or about the same frequency.

Would be an interesting study for us audio/acoustical geeks.

how are the aluminized exhaust's holding up against rust? Lotsa road salt used around here when the snow flies! :(
Just curious if its worth the extra $$$ for SS

The aluminized systems hold up very well. We have several customers with them in MN and they are holding up just fine. They actually look better after one year of salt than the T409 systems do. However, in time the stainless will long outlast the aluminized. If you dont plan on keeping the truck for 5 years or more, go with aluminized.

My aluminized system held up very well on my 05 before I sold it. Came apart easily, and new buyer installed it easily and quickly. Only rust was small surface rust on clamps only. System stayed quiet to the very end.
MARK - the reason it is quiet on some trucks and louder on others is because of the owners - not the trucks. Some of us are almost totally deaf after years of excessive noise (music, exhaust, drag racing, work).

gardnerteam,

Eh what'd ya say Sonnie, I can't hear ya!!!!! A bad impression of Granny on the Beverly Hillbillies!!!!!!

Seriously I think you are somewhat correct. At the same time I hear a guy complain that his brand X exhaust is horrible, then the next guy with the same model truck and exhuast says how quiet it is etc etc. Just doesn't add up!!
