Hey guys gonna be buying an 09 here pretty soon. Did anyone opt for the factory rearview cam? How do you like it? Would it become useless since I plan on lifting my truck 4-7 inches?

Thanks.

I put an aftermarket one on my lic plate. Id do the factory in the tailgate handle if I were you. I can't see my ball when backing up to a trailer. After almost a year of having it, Ive become pretty good at guessing. Other than the it works great.

On my '09, I can clearly see the ball hitch insert (and the license plate lights in the step). I don't think the height of your lift will make it inefective.

I attached a Nylon ziptie (14" x 1/4" wide) to the rear bumper on one of the older trucks with the plate cam. I used a black one and painted the tip white. If your not staring, you wouldn't even notice it, and it's cheap to replace.

Mine came with the truck and you don't know what you are missing until you don't have it any more. Have one on my van and now just installed one on my class C RV.

My truck came with one........and it's great ! I have gotten so used to it that it's hard to back up without one now !

Hooking up a trailer is a breeze in good daylight. It is harder to do in low light or dark because the reverse lights kind of halo out the hitch (makes it tough to see). But besides that.....pretty hard to beat ! The back up camera and remote start are 2 of the things that make me like the new truck more than my 05 !

Have after market one and it's great for hooking up my pull trailer. Helpful when backing up also. Don't know what they charge for the factory model but it's a great option as far as I'm concerned.

I have the factory one and love it. It displays on the Nav screen and it is remarkable how far you can see back at night with just the backup lights.

highly recommend it

My wife has one on her Acadia. My new truck didn't have one. I liked the back up camera and GPS so much on my wife's Acadia so much that I spent $1800 to have an Alpine Nav GPS/DVD/CD/Bluetooth/backup Camera installed. The dealer wanted $1300 just to install the backup camera in the mirror. Mine is a 7" screen that replaced the control head for the stereo.

I'd recommend it too... If you don't have the in dash NAV, then the backup cam shows up in the rearview mirror

Thanks guys, but does anyone here have the rear view cam, that also has a lifted truck? I would like to know if a lift would render the cam useless in a sense of not being able to see the full view from backing up?

The camera is a very wide angle lens. I would really doubt it would be a problem even on a monster lift. On mine I can see the ground darn close to right below the bumper. I can actually see the bumper itself.

Same here. I can see the bumper, and the ground directly vertical below the bumper. It's really amazing how wide angle of a view it is to be able to see the ground directly below the bumper. BUT, you have to remember that objects in camera are closer than they appear!!
