: SCIV with 1056 ?'s
D-nAsTy-MaX 09-25-2009, 05:50 PM my recent build, SCIV with 1056, allison deep pan and suncoast transfer case brace, done by dustin and winston of mydieseladdiction, on the N.C. coast. i run a 01 stock tcm tune.
now has close to 1300 miles on it still seems to shift hard! also when crossing any steep curvy mountain (everywhere here) it gets to 200 degrees and over 200 quick! shifts harder then as well! shifts feel sometimes outta place and hard! now i do not pull anything but do run near 36" tires! dustin was going to redo my tcm tune to help wit the tire size! i run efi live dsp5 wit dustins efi dsp5 tuning! also dustin siad to turn tow/haul on when gettin on it, raising hell, playing around racing, ect... and tow/haul turned off when not givin it hell! which i've done. tow/haul on raisin hell seems to take a second to grab and what not but powers definately ther just feels wierd. at same time tow/haul off being easy dont always feel quite right!
after my 7 hour trip home immediately following the build, the taps were reset and i learned it making continous runs up and down thru the gears increasing throttle each time!
I am waiting for dustin who built the trans to get back to me, called mike l. ,no answer, plan to call again figured i'd start thread in meantime. see i am 7 hours from where it was built! had it built ther because it was mike l. recommended closest! no one anywher near here has any knowledge in built duramaxs/allisons! no real known diesel mechanics here in general anyways
is it the fact its 01 tcm tune i run? only run it cause i understand its best to run. is it just that it needs to be modified for the larger tires?
B-rad 09-26-2009, 11:39 AM i have a 4 with 1056 with about 16k miles on it. i learned to never drink,or have in the cup holder, hot coffee unless im after converter lockup (about 46 mph) .
they will run hot. especially with larger tires. mine gets just over 200 on days over about 92 degrees. we both need a mike l cooler.
the shifts on mine get alot better at about 1600 miles. even better at 3k. lockup at super light throttle will still spill your drink tho.
Tanc Crusher 09-26-2009, 11:44 AM Just had a Suncoast IV and 1056 yesterday myself. I do notice higher temps but was expecting that from the post I read plus hard shifting. But looks like I can ease on and off throttle to even the shift. But It has only been about 20 hours but so far love it.

calabria69 09-26-2009, 12:03 PM i too have the 1056 and it shifted pretty rough, but only for a short period of time,
mine had a t tech 2 on it to help it learn quicker.....mine runs hot, but only in the summer when pulling HEAVY, normal temps are around 185 (summer), i love the way it shifts, especially in tow haul!!
DrHolliday 09-26-2009, 12:15 PM Between the larger tires and the higher tunes you will have warmer transmission temps. Is it hard shifting on every shift or just on lock up? When you get your trans temp up to 170-190 put the truck in park and let it idle for a bit on level ground and double check the transmission fluid level. IIRC it should be half way up the hash mark for the hot fluid level.
One more thing, are you switching tunes a lot? Going from a high pwered tune to a lower power tune will give you hard shifts until the trans relearns. And make sure you let both tow/haul and normal modes learn seperately.
dieselholic06 09-26-2009, 02:13 PM Mine did the same thing, it will clear up.
D-nAsTy-MaX 09-26-2009, 02:46 PM i hope so, i feel confident in diesel addiction and my build! hope it clears up. mike l. cooler the way to go to drop temps? any idea of cost of this and ease of installation?

D-nAsTy-MaX 09-26-2009, 03:57 PM thats directed towards lmm i have lly thanks tho
Tanc Crusher 09-26-2009, 05:40 PM But as the posts mention it is for all Duramaxes. The LMM had issues with way structure wise being installed but seems to have been fixed so one does not have to modify the cooler to fit and LMM but will fit all LB7 to LMM now.

D-nAsTy-MaX 09-26-2009, 06:12 PM got ya, thanks, so istall fairly simple? bolt on? price? is the mike l. cooler tha way to go?
paint94979 09-26-2009, 08:44 PM got ya, thanks, so istall fairly simple? bolt on? price? is the mike l. cooler tha way to go?
Yes the Mike L. cooler is the way to go 100% it is a perfect bolt on kit.... well worth the money
pmeg1 09-26-2009, 10:31 PM I've had Mike's cooler on 3 trucks now and wouldn't be without one on my truck!! On my 02 I had a 20-30 degree temp drop, on my 06 it's more like a 40 degree diff. Well worth the money and it's plug and play. No cutting, fabbing etc.
BigMoose153 09-26-2009, 11:51 PM I've got the SC V and 1056, shifts are very smooth for me, got about 1k miles but the lock-up is still a knee jerker and according to my builder and most folks on here, that's just the way it is. I generally accelerate up during normal driving and right about 49mph, I let up a bit in anticipation of lockup and its not to bad, then just accelerate on like normal. Love the built tranny though on full throttle and a good tune, shifts awesome!
Horsehaulin 09-26-2009, 11:59 PM If you guys have EFI Live, adjust the tire size in the TCM. It helps more than you can imagine. Atleast it did for mine! It was a night and day differance. Reduced converter lock shock as I call it, to half what it was before.
D-nAsTy-MaX 09-27-2009, 02:04 AM so mike l. cooler way to go, looks like i savin for one! put in tire size in tcm tune? this will smooth out not just tire size in the speedo calc on efi? and not a different tcm tune
dieselholic06 09-27-2009, 05:53 PM I don't think I have this locking feel as yall are talking about..?
BigMoose153 09-27-2009, 09:28 PM If you guys have EFI Live, adjust the tire size in the TCM. It helps more than you can imagine. Atleast it did for mine! It was a night and day differance. Reduced converter lock shock as I call it, to half what it was before.
Hmm.. You've peaked my interested, adjust how? As in a bigger or smaller tire? I'm trying to wrap my head around how this would help with reducing the lockup effect. Any adverse effects by doing this, usually have to give up something in order to gain somewhere else.
Tanc Crusher 09-28-2009, 01:23 PM Yeah I could see change TCM that helping some but if your in 6th would not be locked up no matter tow/haul or normal mode?

D-nAsTy-MaX 10-02-2009, 11:39 PM okay so if i take my stock 01 tcm tune and go in to speedo calculator and enter 35" tires and apply that would be best for trans or keep running my 01 stock tcm tune when i have 325/60r/20 pirellis which measure out pretty big, over 35"
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-02-2009, 11:43 PM my main complaint is turbo shutter going in 5th
2000silveradoz7 10-03-2009, 01:54 AM So is this just an effect of the 1056 or all of them? Or is it just the scIV tranny upgrade? I am wanting/needing to upgrade mine, but am leaning toward SCIII and whatever converter comes in the kit. 1056 i think?...
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-03-2009, 02:12 AM i'd go SCIV and whatever mike l. recommends converter wise, i like 1056. hard lockup is nature of the beast, but the sciv and 1056 nice at WOT slams ya in the seat in goes! ya can really feel the throttel response.
my problem is i need proper tcm tune for my application an have not figured out what exactly i need, i run 325/60/20 pirellis lil bigger than a 35. run a stock 01 tcm tune from the library on here. turbo shutters goin in 5th. i need someone to tell me what i need to do for tcm tune!
also a cooler is a must which i have not done yet. living in mountains it gets kinda hot wit these tires goin over national parkway ect...
AKDMAX1 10-03-2009, 06:55 AM This doesnt really help your problem, but they had a big problem up on the northslope with the 01's when they put on larger tires and didnt calibrate the TCM they were burnin up the transmissions
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-03-2009, 11:35 AM so what do i need to do? i obviously dont wanna hurt it
AKDMAX1 10-03-2009, 11:55 AM they were sendin them back to the dealer to have them calibrated, but i dont see why you cant do it with EFI live
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-03-2009, 12:01 PM im just confused as to what to do. i go in to my 01 tcm tune then go to speedo calculator and enter 35" seems like thats only calibratiin speedometer need some directions here by someone experienced wit efi and what i tryin to do i guess
AKDMAX1 10-03-2009, 12:13 PM Sorry I cant help you anymore, Im not that familar with efi live, I was a heavy equipment mech and didnt do much with the light duty stuff up there. They were just sendin them back to the dealer for warrenty so im not sure what else they were doin, i had just heard they were just recalibrating the TCM
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-03-2009, 03:28 PM any advice on what to do wit tcm tune wit mysetup thru efi
dieselholic06 10-03-2009, 03:40 PM any advice on what to do wit tcm tune wit mysetup thru efi
Diesel Addiction should know what to do? Have you tried asking them?
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-03-2009, 03:44 PM yes dustins on honeymoon right now though dont wanna bother him
dieselholic06 10-03-2009, 03:45 PM yes dustins on honeymoon right now though dont wanna bother him
I've got some shift point issues myself I'm trying to work out. If I figure something out I'll be sure to forward the info to you.
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-03-2009, 03:47 PM basically jsut wanna know whats best tcm tune to run with sciv 1056 and 35's im currently running 01 factory tcm tune and get 5th gear shutter, i just wanna know what i should be running dont wanna hurt nothing, i know i have 3.73 gears but on both my stock tcm tune and the 01 factory tcm tune it says 4.10 final drive, idk what i need, just wonder whats been done wit tcm with others wit sciv 1056 and large wheels/tires
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-03-2009, 06:45 PM ^anyone?
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-04-2009, 06:19 PM do i simply need to run the stock 01 tcm tune i have but wit tire size changed to 35 in speedo calculator along wit tire size changed to 35 in shift point correction??
how come it says final drive ratio as 4.10 when i have 3.73 in the rear axle does that matter?
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-04-2009, 06:20 PM help? whats best to do?
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-04-2009, 06:30 PM how come in my dsp5 tune on my truck the final drive ratio says 3.73 but my tcm tune says 4.10?
like under speedo calculator ya go to shift point corrections and it says 3.73 for diff. ratio along wit final drive ratio on my dsp5 tune, yet on my tcm tune it says 4.10 in those areas, i know the truck has 3.73 in the rear axle cause it says that on the window sticker, so should i change my diff. ratio and final drive ratio to 3.73 in my tcm tune and tire size to 34.90 which is what it is in my dsp5 tune. is this what it needs?
Tanc Crusher 10-04-2009, 06:31 PM Sorry put in wrong post. Sorry guys.
Brian
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-04-2009, 07:04 PM how come in my dsp5 tune on my truck the final drive ratio says 3.73 but my tcm tune says 4.10?

D-nAsTy-MaX 10-04-2009, 08:57 PM ^anyone know?
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-04-2009, 11:06 PM mike l? what do i need to do tcm tune wise wit sciv wit 1056 and running about 35" tires on 20's (tires/wheels in sig.) it has factory 01 tcm tune does it just need tire size changed to 35 in speedo calc. along wit tire size changed to 35 in shift point correction under speedo calc.? also should the fianl drive ratio and diff. ratio say 4.10 or 3.73? my windo sticker says 3.73 rear axle, but my tcm tune has 4.10 as diff ratio and final drive ratio, yet the dsp5 tune dustin made me while at diesel addiction building trans says 3.73 for diff. ratio and final drive ratio.
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-04-2009, 11:08 PM just want the right tcm tune in ther dont want somethin not right for it in, and tryin to get rid of the turbo shutter goin into 5th.
also need ya cooler p.m.'d ya my email info mike but didnt hear back from ya
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-05-2009, 12:05 AM anyone? my truck has 3.73 rear axle (window sticker says so), and the dsp5 tune thats in the truck that dustin made while i was at diesel addiction for trans build has 34.90 for tire size correction and 3.73 for final drive ratio and 3.73 for diff ratio,BUT the 01 tcm tune thats in truck says 4.10 for final drive ratio and 4.10 for diff ratio(this comes from under speedo calc. for both speedometer calculation under speedo calc., and shift point correction under speedo calc.)
shouldnt 01 tcm tune have 3.73 put in for final drive ratio and diff ratio, and 34.90 for tire size to correct shift points and speedometer?
wouldnt that be best for truck with the built sciv wit 1056 and the larger tires?
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-05-2009, 02:57 PM well never got a answer so just did what i asked if i should do, changed diff ratio and final drive ratio to 3.73, and tire size to 34.90, so it matches what the dsp5 tune in truck says in these areas now, this is all in my factory 01 tcm tune under speedo calc. for both speedometer correction and shift point correction flashed it in this mornin.
HOPE THIS IS RIGHT IF ITS NOT SOMEONE TELL ME SO
motoguy82 10-06-2009, 06:12 AM I never changed anything with my TCM. I didn't want to mess anything up. My TCM speedo shows a 4.10 final drive ratio. Unless you're having big problems, my suggestion is to not mess with it.
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-06-2009, 02:02 PM ya not get 5th gear shutter? do ya run your original stock tcm tune not a 01 tcm tune
trentnell 10-06-2009, 02:37 PM My guess would be that when you shift into 5th the turbo is shuttering/barking ? if so raise that shift point 100-200 rpm . The tcm should stay with it saying 4.10 gears , that is the way it came from Allison and there is no gain to changing it , just make shure the ECM see's the right tires size .
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-06-2009, 02:59 PM got ya thanks trentnell, so raise 4-5 shift point 100-200rpms and will get rid of turbo bark, leave rest of tcm stuff as it came, just have tiresize corrected in dsp5 tune, run factory 01 tcm tune or my factory 05 tcm tune?
trentnell 10-06-2009, 03:10 PM got ya thanks trentnell, so raise 4-5 shift point 100-200rpms and will get rid of turbo bark, leave rest of tcm stuff as it came, just have tiresize corrected in dsp5 tune, run factory 01 tcm tune or my factory 05 tcm tune?
You dont need any other changes to the tcm other than raising the 4-5 shift point to correct your problem . a stock tcm with that simple change should suffice .
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-06-2009, 03:32 PM got ya am i better off wit 01 stock tcm wit that change or my 05 stock tcm wit that change?
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-12-2009, 01:33 PM dustin set me up wit the factory 01 tcm tune wit 5th changes, seems great! thanks all
BigMoose153 10-13-2009, 01:42 PM 5th changes how? As in to lighten up the lockup effect or the turbo shutter?
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-13-2009, 10:35 PM to get tid of turbo shutter guess he just adjusted it to shift a lil later,
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-13-2009, 10:47 PM realy would like to figure out wat route to go on trans cooler? mike l.'s ? how much it cost? somethin else? wat bout his c3oiler or snake oil kit, is it effective still being the c3's were not cut on mine for it since i hadnt bought it upon install dustin said he could cut them if i was definately gettin mike's c3 oiler but i didnt know? also how much it cost?
BigMoose153 10-13-2009, 11:57 PM I'm running mike L.'s cooler.. As most have stated including Mike L. himself, I'm seeing the 20-25 degree drop but even here in Texas, the weather has cooled off considerably so it'll have to wait till next summer when I'm towing to confirm. For now, where I used to run 200 (and over in traffic) after the tranny upgrade (unloaded), i haven't seen 200 since the cooler. Generally running in the 175-180 range.
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-14-2009, 12:39 AM easy install? cost?
BigMoose153 10-14-2009, 10:36 AM very easy install... Give mike a ring, great guy to chat with. $450 is what I've seen around here for a couple years and it hasn't changed as of last month. You can go the other route of building your own but the kit he sells doesn't get any easier, pretty much a remove the old and drop in the new.
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-14-2009, 12:45 PM got ya thanks! how needed is the c3 oiler or "snake oil kit" see dustin said when building my trans if i was going to get c3 oiler soon he would cut off something where the c3 oiler sprays in for the best flow, i did not know if i would get it or not so he didnt cut it, so my question is how useful is c3 oiler, and will it still do its job being he didnt cut that when building? also how much is it?
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-16-2009, 06:14 PM ^info on this? mike l.?
Mike L. 10-16-2009, 06:42 PM got ya thanks! how needed is the c3 oiler or "snake oil kit" see dustin said when building my trans if i was going to get c3 oiler soon he would cut off something where the c3 oiler sprays in for the best flow, i did not know if i would get it or not so he didnt cut it, so my question is how useful is c3 oiler, and will it still do its job being he didnt cut that when building? also how much is it?
Call me.
D-nAsTy-MaX 10-17-2009, 01:46 AM will do mike, tried a few days ago but wasnt able to get ya will give ya another ring
