: My 3rd Oil Analysis
slackerjpt 09-23-2009, 05:31 PM Ok everyone, I finally got the results of my 3rd analysis. Couldn't figure out how to delete address so ignore it please :) A few things: I used Mobil Delvac 15W40, and an AC delco filter. That is all I have ever used in my truck. I had 44,700 mi on my truck when I changed it, and I no longer have the fumoto valve on. Also the report mentions F350, ignore it as I have a Duramx deisel. So I am pleased and the gentlemen at black stone called my report exemplary. Thoughts, and comments please.
dnewton3 09-24-2009, 05:24 AM I'm not sure how you got a Dmax into an F-350 ... I guess it can be done, but I would think that makes for some strange conversations! JK! Anyway, I tend to ignore the BS comments as they are sometimes inane.
Presuming that the "universal averages" for the analysis are the true ones for a Dmax, I'd say you're in great shape, as they are typically for a 6.5k mile run, and you have more miles than that, with "average" wear.
I'd say you could easily run this oil (Delvac 1300) up to 10k miles. Your UOA is just yet another dino UOA that supports this conclusion. It is becomming common place to see Dmax's on dino fluids that can cover 10k miles and still have viable fluid. Obviously, usage pattern and severity play into this, but overwhelmingly, the evidence shows this to be a solid generalization.
ericw13 09-24-2009, 10:23 AM that 2007 dmax has to use the cj-4 oil with the low soot formula. i dont think i would run regular dino oil up to 10k. oil is much cheaper than an engine. for me i will stick to my amsoil but your oil report does look fine
dnewton3 09-24-2009, 11:43 AM Just a few clarifications:
1) CJ-4 fluids are not "low soot"; they are low SAPS (sulphated ash, phosphorus, and sulphur). They are designed to operate with the "higher" soot content from the ever-increasing use of EGR in today's engines.
2) Many of the UOAs on this site, and over at BITOG, for the last year or so ARE CJ-4 oils!
The excellent results I've mentioned are almost exclusively CJ-4 lubes, no matter what year vehicle of Dmax they have been used in. Search many of the UOAs posted here, and you'll see the Devlac 1300 is a stellar performer.
The OP (slackerjpt), can, with certainty, use Delvac 1300 dino oil for 10k miles. Is oil cheaper than a new engine? Sure it is. But using oil to its full, safe potential is also cheaper than dumping it before it's been fully utilized.
These are your daddy's oils anymore ...
ericw13 09-24-2009, 11:59 AM im not saying there is anything wrong with running dino oil up to 10k. but i would change it sooner before i spent the money to send of and get an oil analysis.
like i said above i run amsoil and i go 20k between oil changes and never had a single problem. no injectors, no water pumps, nothing... so is it worth 80$ per change? I believe so...
if i was not running amsoil i would go about 7.5k between oil changes but i would not push it. in alabama its high humidity and these engines ingest a lot of moisture from the air. not to mention my areas is dusty for the better part of the year (usually) so for me it just seems to work better to stay on top of oil changes and air filter changes.
Anyone that REALLY wants to know what is going on with oil needs to get a hold of Terry Dyson, he is the man! Not cheap but he is into the science of oil.

:funnypost, and great report slackerjpt

Why does he have to use CJ rated oil? Last I checked the "Classic" didn't HAVE to use CJ.
My two cents
Kevin
ericw13 09-26-2009, 12:58 AM yeah true. sorry about that, i didn't see it was a classic.... carry on
CJBROWN 09-28-2009, 06:43 PM The duramax is very easy on oil. And there's a lot of it in there. Any good diesel rated oil will serve it fine at 7500mi OCI's. I would not go 10-12K on dino oil either.
I used to always run Amsoil in everything, but an annual oil change is like 4-5K miles for me so I went back to Delo400. Delvac, rotella and delo are definitely good oils, sufficient with regular changes.
mpriceduramax 09-28-2009, 06:54 PM ill be sending my oil into this same company my next oilchange, ive been thinking about doing it for a while. im afraid it will be same effect as going to the doctor when your not sick. they'll probably tell me i have more bearing material than oil in my sample or something.
ericw13 09-28-2009, 10:12 PM agreed i run rotella in my atv's
slackerjpt 10-05-2009, 05:37 PM I for one have been real happy with Mobil Delvac. My 3 oil tests have shown great wear on my engine and hopefully a long trouble free life (knock on wood).
