I have an 01 with over 70K miles and the truck still runs great. I don't smell any fuel in the oil or notice any of the problems associated with a bad injector. I stopped by a dealership a few days ago and was getting some part #'s and such from the parts department. I asked the parts guy a few questions about the service department and was trying to get a feel for this place on how much experience they might have working on our D/A's. I asked him if they change a lot of fuel injectors and he said, oh yes. He then said if you want them replaced on your 01 just call the service department and tell them you are having power loss and suspect the injectors to be going bad. I asked why say that, and he said because the 01's and 02's they don't bother doing the full check up on them, they just change all the injectors because warrenty covers it all anyway. He said they try to keep plenty in stock and if I bring my truck in they could have it back to me with new injectors in 3 days easy.
Ok, now my question. With my truck still running great, would I benefit any by changing them out now instead of waiting till they fail? I don't think it is the right thing to do on a truck running just fine, but I know my 01 injectors will go bad. They are just destined to fail on me because my luck isn't the best. So, would you do it or not?

Stay with what you have, it works.

I'd go with new injectors! Get the newer ones in there before the warranty runs out and you have to pay for them! IMHO anyway!

I think I might wait a little while on having them changed. At least I know there is a dealership within an hours drive of me that has experience on our trucks and I shouldn't have any problems getting them changed when they do go bad or when I get to 190K miles, whichever occurs first. :) My first thought was get them changed now for a little peace of mind, and I would still have 130K miles to see if the new set goes bad. Help! What is the injector warranty situation on a 2002 Duramax with 50K miles? I've got injectors that the dealer says are failing and they say they can't replace them until they fail totally! I have a 3000 mile trip in Mexico planned and I'm not thrilled with having them fail in Pico De Gallo, Mexico with the nearest GM dealer 200 miles away! I' wonder if GM makes diesel airplanes? I suppose they'd say if you crash due to injector failure will replace them!

Yeah... fly it t'ill you crash... very nice from them. I understand they are trying to minimize the costs but this is stupid. I'm even suprised that nobody got hurt because of that so far.
When mine failed I was towing a little bit more than 14,000#. I was on a level stretch of road but 2 km later I would have been climbing in the middle of a 3km 9% grade.
No engine, no power brake, no power steering... I may not have had the time to put it in Park. Parking brake...maybe. When you're climbing a steep hill loaded and the engine quits; you stop very fast...and start to go backward. The trailer brakes are able to stop the trailer but maybe not in a hill.
