Fuel up at a active gas station or truck stop. The more diesel burners you see fueling up at one location the fresher the fuel. Look for landscapers, DHL, UPS, Fedex, construction eq, etc.
As for additives the top three we all use are ( Standyne, Amsoil and Diesel Kleen )
The best thing you can do for the truck is not to use CHEAP filters and run fresh clean fuel through her.
You also might want to consider a tuner for better mpgs, take a look at EFI Live and PPE

I mix 12 oz Lucas with 20 oz Diesel Kleen in a 32 oz bottle and add about 10-12 oz of the mix to every tank.
I have used this mix for 6 years.:)

Stanadyne Performance Formula in every tank. It has a cetane improver which will improve your mileage at least enough to cover the cost of the additive. That makes the other benefits like lubricity, cold weather protection, detergent, and the rest free. :thumb:

Adding a secondary fuel filter will do wonders for longetivity. May want to spend a bit of time checking this out...it's along one..but quite good with plenty of pics.

And for the record, I use Diesel Kleen 50/50 with BioD.
