I had my truck in to the dealer for a vibration when I accelerate hard. They said it was the lift. I called pro comp and they said I needed a carrier bearing drop. I looked under there and I had the drop already. I then got to reading around and read that what I have is axle wrap. The vibration is only on take off and then goes away. So I read that I need traction bars to solve this problem. I went to 4 wheel part to buy the bars and they had to order the install kit. This was 3 weeks ago. Today they tell me they dont know why they are not there and that they should be here soon. I asked them to cancel my order. So does anyone know where to get a set of traction bars to go with a pro comp 6 inch lift? I need the bars and the install kit.

How did you lift the rear? If you have blocks, they are probably causing the axle wrap. I wasn't a big fan of traction bars, so I replaced my blocks with lift springs, and my axle wrap went away. Just throwing out another option.

Your truck is a 2wd if I remember right....

You might need to play with the carrier bearing. There is not a set point of drop but there is a starting point and then you play with it from there to fix a off line or high speed vibration. If you are not doing anything crazy on HP and launching I say it's your carrier bearing rather than true axle wrap.

The traction bars did not help one bit. I am only running the Banks six gun with PDA. I tried taking out some of the shims on the carrier bearing along with a few other variations. But I have not put any more in. Yes my truck is a 2wd. I had kind of given up on the vibration. But I would still like to figure out what it is.

my recomendation is to measure the ujoint working angles the one at the the rear end and the carrier should have less than 4 degrees of working angle and within 1 degree of one another. the joint at the trans (or tcase for a 4wd) should be aroud 1/2 degree.

these are ideal numbers and usually can be exceded provided you stay at or below 4 working angle on the rear two joints.

I actually just fixed a stock truck last week that had some horribly mismatched angles. some shimming was needed both at the carrier and the trans mount, but once I got them right it was smooth all the way up through 75mph.

It is the carrier. I have the Pro Comp 6 and mine spacer is 4" I think. I started with 2 and kept adding till it went away. After I did away with that vibration, I got another and it turned out to be the Ujoints. Look at them too

I also think its the carrier bearing.

Thanks guys. I will check this weekend if I get time. I am not sure how much space is in the spacer right now but I dont think it is 4". I would check now but the wife has the truck.:(

Let me know I have a vibration around 50mph with the Pro comp lift also.

X2 This is where I would start.....it is not uncommon even on stock trucks to find the angles are off. GM even offers shims for some models because of this problem.

how do you measure the angles?

where do you get carrier bearing shims? I put 2" blocks in the rear and it has a hell of a shudder taking off. I have traction bars and I tapered shims for the blocks that I havent put on yet

2WD's do, that's why ;)

4x4's have a shorter shaft b/c the t-case takes up a good portion of the length.

Just do a set of Caltracs and be done with the issue. Excellent product and performance and Dmax store guy is the price man. My truck launches so nice and straight the ride is better and even. Most of all the axle wrap on expansion joints is somehow evened up and it rides solid. Not a caddy but put 500 lbs. in box to ride nicer not bad....

I've heard for about every 1" of lift in the rear, you should lower the carrier bearing 1/4".

That should get you started then adjust from there.
